Cinder Hills OHV Area - Flagstaff, AZ 7/23/06
Located Northeast of Flagstaff, east of Highway 89 is this black sand recreational vehicle oasis. After airing down and getting used to the enormous drag that is created when trying to manuever your tires through the sand, it was off to explore the area. Tons of bowls and whoop-de-doos, trails leading every which way, high banked turns, hills to climb, hills to descend, etc. Lots of fun! Stay on the gas, but don't overheat your engine by hanging out at 4000 RPM in 4L. And bring a shovel just in case.
Me and Ethan
Keep on Truckin'. Look at MEEEE - I'm a dork!
A few minutes on foot surveying the trail can save you hours of recovery or worse later
Descending the sandy quad trails...
And a hokey video to boot...

Peace!

Cool pics, looks like you gusy had fun. Did you climb and of the cinder cone hills?
When I had an '86 4Runner, we went up and down those really steep cinder cone hills, pretty freaky when the Runner starts to slide down.....

I played around in that bowl and then headed down an ATV trail (it was pretty narrow and lots of berms), and then climbed back up going on another trail. So as far as "steep" stuff, I may not have been in the sections that you are referring to. Didn't get to spend nearly the amount of time exploring that I wanted to, so there is probably way more stuff to do. It's a definite "need to go back and play again" area.
