Microsoft releases free anti-scumware

It's in Beta, so I'll stick with Spybot with Tea Timer enabled, Spyware Blaster, Ad-Aware SE, IE updated, and AVG 6.0, all free.

New MS scumware remover

They bought out Giant

Free for now, who knows about later...

I scanned the article & couldn't tell, is this Giant software under the MS name? I used Giant for it's trial period & REALLY liked it, if so I'll put it on my work PC's.

Thanks Bob. I installed it and did a scan and it worked well. It said I had eight items and removed them.

So far no problems. I'll keep you posted.

BTW- Did you get the Supra yet? I'll keep my eye out here in the motherland.

Ok, so I installed it & it is clearly Giant with the name changed, this is awesome. My favorite spyware software free from MS :headbang: It even shuts off MS Messenger!

Bob, I'd recommend giving it a try. I've found that this does the best job of cleaning the most junk with one go. I don't consider it beta software, since it appears the only untested part are the MS logo's that look funny everywhere in it.

Haven't downloaded it since I rarely get any pop-ups with running Adaware every now and then, but here is part of the user agreement:

1. USE RIGHTS. If you comply with this agreement, you have the right to install and use the software on your computer until July 31, 2005, or until the date we release a commercial version of the software, whichever date is first.

2. TIME-SENSITIVE SOFTWARE. The software will stop running on July 31, 2005. You may not receive any other notice. You will not receive any further updates when the software stops running.

I think it's good that Microsoft is taking a step at stopping spyware since it is a very common computer problem nowadays.

I downloaded and installed it. Works very well for microsoft, hahaha. I ran this software, then deleted 2 problems, then ran adaware and spybot, both found nothing else.

Woody! Great to see you here again! I hadn't looked into this thread in a few days so enjoyed the surprise.

Supra is a ways off. I'm going to be watching the New York show in March (live webcast from Lexus again) and drooling over the new IS350. I think that will be my next new car followed by a Supra that will be based on the IS platform. Meanwhile, I'm driving my third new second gen Prius. Amazing car even though I feel a bit like a dork liberal geek in it. They love 'em in Oregon, though, and resale is amazing...well above MSRP.

How's that beautiful Surf doing? I'm still jealous over JDM content compared to ours. We're supposed to get the D-4D diesel next year pending regulatory actions in CA that affect several other states regs.

I haven't installed the software in the link yet. I'll d/l and keep in a temp folder in case MS starts charging.
