Coke Ovens?

A buddy wants to run this next w/e. We haven't nailed down Sat or Sun yet the 26th/27th. Any interest in tagging along? Any preferences on which day?

Yeah... how about Thursday.

I thought I had heard something had changed in regards to access to the coke ovens... some problem with private property. I'd be interested to learn if that was just rumor.

I've been talking about doing this run alot lately. I'd be down to go - I do have some plans this weekend but nothing is not set. I would lean more towards Sunday but either day would work for me if you don't mind me and the gf tagging along.

I was just out that way over the weekend at Country Thunder and they had the access road blocked by police cars, but it didn't look like it the access would have been limited.

I have a friend who lives in Colidge - I'll give him a call this evening and see if he knows anything. I can call the forest service to see if anything has changed.

A guy I work with was out there last w/e and said he saw no sign of closure so we'll hope for the best I suppose. Thanks for the reminder though, I had forgotten all about that.

Yeah I'm leaning towards Sunday too. I'll confirm with my buddy, but that sounds like the plan to me. Looking forward to seeing you again.

I'd like to get into the mix also. Going to get warm!! Can we get a meeting time and place. It's been about 4 years since I've been to the ovens.

OK, just heard back from Chris and he is leaning towards Sunday also so it's all falling into place. I figure to go in off Hwy 60 so we can meet up at the Shell station on the 60 at Gold Canyon at 8:30 and pull out by 9:00. We could shake this up if need be and go in Cottonwood Canyon. I'd rather not go in Price road unless someone has a strong desire to do Elvis.

Its been a few years since I've been out there too. I was wondering what the plan was when we get to the ovens; Last time I was out there we crossed the river and went the rest of the loop around and I am concerned that the river might be too high for my stock height truck to cross this time of year.

I live in Chandler, so I'm down to meet up just about anywhere on the way there - anywhere along the way would be good for me!

Can't wait to get out there again.

My co worker who was just out there thought it was way too high and said he wouldn't even consider it.

Another good way to go is take the battleaxe trail out to the east.

OK. Hows about a roll call for Sunday so I know who to look out for? At this point we'll leave it as the Gold Canyon Shell at 8:30. yjzonie, if you want to come the back way through Florence let me know and we can figure a spot to meet up.

It doesn't show up very well on the map, but it's on the N. side of the hwy right at the intersection. There is a traffic light there.

Man, I would really like to tag along. Except that I'm like 2000 miles away. I should really move back to AZ after this summer.
