Manual hub swap on 3rd gen 4runner

I picked up SteveO's manual hubs he had for sale and installed them in my 2000 4runner this past weekend. Good stuff. Check out a few pics from the swap.

VERY COOL! Glad to see that you put them right to use. Glad it worked out for you.

Why did you use Tacoma shafts instead of 4Runner ones?

I just put them in last weekend so I haven't had the chance to see any difference. From what I've read, I don't expect to see much, if any, changes in MPG.

The whole swap cost me around $850 in parts/shipping. This included SteveO's manual hubs/4runner spindles, Tacoma manual axles, and two new upper ball joints. Since I bought SteveO's setup with the manual hubs and bearings already pressed in the 4runner spindles, the hard part was already done. Your best bet would be to go with a junk yard swap from a manual hub Tacoma or an aftermarket setup like ORS. Either way, it's might cost you more since you will have to deal with pressing in/out the manual hubs. Steve S. has some info on the junk yard swap on his website.

The outboard ends of the ADD axles on a 96-02 4runnner are different than a manual axle. The 4runner axle is threaded and it bolts up to the hub. The manual axle just has splines and it attaches with a washer and snap ring and uses the manual lockout to engage the front axles. In short, the outboard ends are not compatible. You can kinda see the difference in some my pics. Not quite as easy/cheap as swaping on a 2nd gen 4runner.

Ok so I have a 95 limited that I have just sitting. My question is will the manual lock hubs fit on my 99 limited?
