2nd gen 1.5 lift -what shocks to run?
i cant seem to find any info on which rancho or pro comp shocks to run with this small of a suspension lift? it seems like it should be so simple but i cant find anything and my local 4x4 shops cant offer any useful info. what do you guys run/think?

Here's some info I have collected:
The following are some possible shock absorbers that may work with a 1.5" front ball joint spacer and similar lift in back (longer spring shackles, add-a-leaf, coil spacer, etc.):

Roger, he has a 92 4Runner so he has coils not leafs.
Y2Krunner, a friend of mine has the same coils I've (+4cm) and he put OME LC 80 coils and has a very nice flex:
He hasn't any BL and has 31's.
I want to put the same shocks but Ranchos, they're the RS99208 for RS9000's or the RS5208 for RS5000's.

The 99009's are a little long (I think) without LC coils. I think they may bottom out...
RS99009:
Comp: 16.00''

I know the 9208's are shorter but I think the 9009's will extend too much and the coil can move of fall and they can bottom out...
Anyone can confirm if they can bottom out with +1.85'' coils?

I just keep one file for '86-'95 pickups and 4Runners. Fronts will be the same on all, rears on the 1st gen 4Runners and all the pickups will be the same, the 2nd gen 4Runner rears are the only different item, so it is not worth maintaining 2 or 3 different files with most of the information duplicated.

im looking for something 1"-2" longer travel than stock correct, no longer no shorter? what is the stock travel for a factory 2nd gen 4runner shock anyways?

Measure your shocks and see what the compressed and extended lengths are. Also, see how close to making out the extension you are now. Then you can see what sort of lengths you may need if you do need a longer shock. Info on how to all all the above are on the web page below:

To make the actual shock measurement, pull one off. Push it all the way in and get the compressed length, pull it all the way out for the extended length. Measuring tips on the page I posted a link to earlier. Then re-measure with the shock on the vehicle, see how close to full extension you are getting now.

A lot of people just use stock length shocks with the downey coils. Longer shocks aren't absolutely necessary. But...if you want better articulation then longer shocks are necessary.
Using rogers method of find the overall travel is a good technique, however the shock that fits that travel window (like the 5009) will be really long. The 5009 or 9009 from rancho will give the most amount of travel your stock linkages can handle, however you may find the springs will fall out...but I'm not sure. This amount of travel my be overkill for your application depending on how difficult the terrain. Also, with longer shocks you open up more cans of worms with the drive shaft hitting the gas tank and whether you need a panhard drop or not.
Even with cruiser coils, I'm pretty sure I would bottom out on the shocks way before I hit anything else.

well i just installed my OME HD rear coils and with my old shocks measurement as it sat was 20.5" (from eye to upper shock mount). Will the 5009 still be overkill? i dont see the springs popping out as the multi link wouldnt let the axel drop that far... or would it?

I have a doubt... You put longer coils (Downey, LC Coils...) but the distance between the shock mounts at full compress it's always the same... So if you put quite longer shocks (5009 f.e.) they would bottom out isn't it?
