thats cool, but they ARE staged... also if you look close, on the ram video, the ram is spinnin its tires as if its being dragged, but theres slack in the rope.

yeah, exactly. i mean honestly, i dont know much about the new tundra, but it seems that a dodge V8 would rip a tundra a new bunghole, in terms of torque.

They're entirely staged, they're done by a toyota dealership.

The domestic trucks are being floored and spinning their tires, which means they have less force being put to the ground (spinning tires have less friction than tires going road speed). Because of this the Tundra can pull them pretty easily since he's controlling his throttle and not spinning the tires.

I doubt the actual truck suspension, or horsepower has much to do with the results.

Big factors are:
  • tires
  • weight over the axles pushing the tires into the asphalt
  • driver (spinning tires= little traction)
  • that about sums it up

0-60 in 14 seconds towing 8500lbs. WOW that's like towing two first gen 4Runners and its STILL faster than my 4Runner towing.. nothing.

I do wonder about any companies' ads being non-bias. I mean, the Toyota could have the cat removed, or lower gears for the test, and who would ever know. Just about every truck manufacturer says their truck is the fastest, pulls hardest, brakes quickest and is the most reliable (though I bet Tundra has this in the bag).

Its not like any of them lack the power to spin the tires in 4 hi, so once again, its mostly about the driver and then the weight of each truck.

the tundra has traction control doesnt it? so it wouldn't allow itself to spin out of control which might just be the whole point...

And who would really know if they were using lower gears then stock, i mean, most people dont even know that you can change gear ratios

No, As long as we are comparing apples to apples with gas engines, the Tundra with the 5.7 has more HP and torque. 381HP and 401 ft./lbs of torque for the 5.7 Tundra, vs. 345HP and 375 ft./lbs for the Hemi in the Ram. The '09 Ram will be just a bit more powerful than the Tundra, unless Toyota ups the power for 09 too. I wonder who Dodge is gunning for? Certainly isn't Ford or Chevy.
