Lower the truck to the jackstands so the rear axle sits on them.

make sure you clean your diff breather!!! may be the reason you're leaking.

I did a e-locker swap on my 90 a few months ago. The top studs on my diff were rusted to the casting, so I spent a lot of time hammering, chiseling etc and could not get it split with the axle out of the vehicle. I eventually drilled out a couple of the top studs, and that worked.

Well, did you get her to break loose ??? A lot of 3rd members are sealed with FPIG (form in place gasket) and once that sets up they stick pretty good, go with a stiff putty knife and a hammer, it should come loose, also I swear by that black FIPG toyota sells, you won't have anymore leaks in that area. It's good for engine repair as well, it won,t take out o2 sensors like some silicon sealers. Good idea checking that vent!

Place jack under pinion flange. It will work guaranteed.

Done!

I used permatex (elephant snot as my mechanic brother calls it) to help seal the gasket.

Replaced both inner seals, the diff gasket, new drums and pads (shoes were SOAKED with oil and the drum was rusted and coated in oil/mud) now I just have to fill er back up and bleed the brakes and I'm rollin!
