Tranny and 285/75 SSR???

Hey all

I just lifted and put some 285/75-16 SSR's (33.9" OD) so basically a 34" tire. I have a 4sp auto tranny with a tow package. When I am on the highway I have to keep it out of OD untill I get to a high enough speed that the tranny doesn't kick down everytime I go up a SLIGHT incline and intown I just keep it out of OD.

How many of you guys do this? I have had NO problems with my tranny and everything seems to be working good and I want to keep it that way.

I am thinking it would be a good idea to get a transmission temp guage. I also keep the ETC button on now.

Should I be doing anything else to save my tranny or any tips. I am pretty sure it already has a tranny cooler since it has a tow package

PS. Don't know if it matters but it is a 98 Limited

"with a tow package" means not too much...what you need to do is regear and get the engine back into its power-range...simple as that

gotchya. Won't have money for that anytime soon so I recon ill just keep it out of OD... Gas is cheaper than a new tranny

I've got those same tires on my '98 automatic but I have the 3.4.

I was actually pleasantly surprised by how well the engine has done. But with the four cylinder I can see how a regear would probably work wonders for you.
