Stock hieght question
Any1 know the measurement from top of the rim to the bottom of the fender-lip? Or what the stock hieght was for the '91 4x4? Need to crank down my T-bars to factory, and I lost my notes on what all has been done to the beast....Thanks all.....

W/ KYB'S and re-arched rear leaf's, the only negitive effects on the ride occure only to my lower back.....lol. Don't have the back of an 16 yr old anymore.....thank ya kindly

When I got my truck earlier this year it had an extra leaf spring in the back (which it still does) which effectively gave the rear end a slight raise (maybe 1 1/2" over stock height from other 3rd gen trucks I've seen). The wheel well space in the front was noticeably higher than the rear though becuase the previous owner had it cranked up so high. I measured the gaps from the bottom of the chrome fender trim to top of the rim and it was roughly 13 1/4" for both sides for the rear. The fronts were about 14 1/2". The front end rode like absolute crap and having the rear leaf spring made the bumps hit even harder from the rear. So I took it in to the local alignment shop and had them crank the torsion bars down 3/4's of an inch and do an alignment which you need to do anytime you adjust them. It improved the ride a heck of a lot and really made you feel more connected to the road but despite the difference the front end still, maybe to my careful eye, looked slightly higher (at least as far as wheel well gaps were concerned) than the rear. And of course it was too. I recently had my truck in for some suspension work again at this shop (had a serious look over after it being stolen) and I figured since I was going to get an alignment again might as well have them adjust the torsion bars again too. I got them to lower them another 1/4" inch - at least that's what I told them. However I think they might have gone even lower as I told them I wanted it to look level, which it now does. So I just measured it and it's 13 1/4", which matches the rear pretty much exactly (meaning they cranked them down say another 1/2"). Now, the front end rides exceptionally well. It absorbs bumps so well right now that it really helps you not notice the rear with extra leaf spring hitting. Who cares about the slight ride height loss, this equivocates into control. And I wouldn't use the word "slight" in describing the loss of ride comfort by just simply cranking the front up an inch if that's what someones goal is. Leave them at stock height and let the torsion bars and related components do what they were designed to do. Otherwise you'll have a bump stop vehicle!
