Locked glove compartment

My wife locked her wallet in the glove compartment on our 3rd gen last night and now she can't unlock it even though she's using the same key. I'm out of town for another week or so and so I can't actually look at it. Has anyone had this problem before or have any ideas about how to unlock it? So far she's tried pulling the lever while turning the key and inserting the key at different depths.

Thanks

Gary

Thats weird...I can't use my main key to lock my glovebox. I would try calling the dealer and ask them if there is a special key they can cut for her to undo it...if not what key should do it.

Thats all I can say man, sorry...goodluck to her though.

Try some kind of lubricant. Locks can compleetly jam up sometimes if they get any corostion inside.

If I remember right when I got my Runners they always gave you 2 keys one was considered the master/key that opens everything and a second which they called a valet key that only was able to start the car and not unlock other things like the glove box or rear hatch. Maybe this is what your running into and it was by luck she was able to lock it the first time...
Just a guess figured I toss it out there..

Guys,

WT is right. However, the valet key does not work for the glove box.

My guess is taht something got pinched in the locking mechanism when she closed it. Now its sorta like its "penny locked" and won't turn.

I'd say bang it a few times and see if she can't jostle whatever is stuck in there and then try the key again.

I think the all metal key is the valet key. The one with the plastic is the master key. That is how it is for my '98. If she were able to lock it, the same key should work. I would also suggest trying to use lubricant. Isn't there something made especially for locks?

She went and had a locksmith make a new key and that new one opened it up. Thanks for the suggestions.
