Hey,... I have a couple of questions about lifting a truck.

What exactly does it take to lift a truck? I mean,... I'm thinking larger springs and struts but that sounds to easy,... I have a 2000 Toyota Tacoma 2.7 4x4. I would have to go coil overs all the way around to lift the truck? Does anything have to be done to the chasis? Any coil overs recommended? I dont plan on doing alot of offroading so I dont exactly need the best of the best. Thanks in advanced.

Do you not like how your current suspension rides?

If you like it, you may just want to go with a body lift as it will be cheap and easy to do:
http://4crawler.cruiserpages.com/4x4...Kit.shtml#Kits

Do a search for suspension lifts though...you'll find lots of options: spacers, coil overs, OME, ect.

Ok,... well I basically want to get some 33's on my 2000 tacoma. Although it would be nice to lift the truck with coil overs all the way around,... I dont feel like spending 1000+ when I know that I am not going to to do any major off roading with the truck. I just want some nice 33's on the truck so when it snows I can go all out,... I think I just want to go with a body lift. Can I get 33's on my 2000 tacoma with a 2" lift? I dont really want to raise the truck more than I have to,... I know I am not going to get a tire lager than 33 so there is no need for the excessive height. It would only make the truck top heavy. So I'm think maybe a 2" lift would be good. what do you think?

2" Body lift and maybe a little fender pounding and you can fit 285's.

Waskillywabbit did it on his 3rd Gen.

Yep, Rob is right. 285s only rub oh so slightly with a 2" RB body lift.

I also pounded down the pinch weld in the fender well and that helped. To get no rubbing at all I'm going to have to go higher with some suspension lift, SAWs up front and OMEs in the rear.

Hope this helps!

Do you plan on regearing?

LOL,... I love my 4,... I got that truck because of the fact that it's powered by a 4. It's not exactly a small 4 either,... the largest 4 that I know of is a 3.2L,... mine is 2.7, not that far off. Also,... when it comes down to snow, it's not about power,... it's traction, height, the ability to paddle through it. My mother has an explorer and it has a 4.0 6 in it and she gets stuck all the time. Now,... seeing that I dont feel like banging, bending, or rolling my fenders,... i am now thinking a 3" lift? Easier then rolling the fenders? I have 265's on the truck now,... how much bigger are 33's? My friend has a taco lifted 3" and has 33's on it,... they down look all that much bigger then mine. They just have a hell of alot more tread then mine. Now,... what do you guyz think about POLY hardware? UHMW_PE block etc,...? I mean,... its plastic but that guy claims that its stronger and more durable then steal? Also,.. bolts he says he sell SAE grade 5? What about 9 grade bolts?

Ummm... you keep saying "coilovers all around"... Tacoma's have leaves in the back, so coilovers are not even an option there...

33's are going to rub like a banshee on anything less than 4" of lift. 3" lift and 32's are an option, or whatever it takes you to get the truck up close to 4-5" for 33's.

How is that possible,... my friend has his up on 3" blocks and his 33's clear just fine. How much bigger are 33X12.5 compared to 265/70/15's? I wouldn't mind going up that high it's just that if I have to go up that high I would rather have a suspension lift. I can't afford a suspension lift. But I am kinda nervous about doing a body lift,... how much worrying would I have to do if I got the truck lifted 3 - 4 inches using a blocks? Say I got a 3" lift and used 32's instead how tall are they when compared to my stock 265/70/15's?

I went up in stages, stock with 265/70R16's, 3" with 265/75R16's, 3+" with 33x12.5's, 8" with 33x12.5's, 9" with 35x12.5's.

Stock didn't rub, 3" with 265/75's (32's) didn't rub. 3+" with 33x12.5's was miserable and rubbed even on road.

265/70's are a small 31" tire.

I think Tacoma's look right at 3" of lift with 265/75's.

From what I read, my experiences seem to be pretty typical...

You can do a 3" spacer in the front and a 2 1/2" AAL in rear for less than the cost of most body lifts... That will put the truck level instead of nose down and will let you run 265/75's (32's) without rubbing, and in my opinion it looks "right".

Blocks are the devil.

We have one of these at work...
Man, that is one sluggish V6! First few times I got in and started driving, I kept checking to see if my emergency brake was on!

Ford V6 and Toyota V6 are 2 very different animals. I don't think I'd really compare those together.

My opinion anyway
