HELLO EVERYONE, and 3 inch REV TEK question..

Hi,

I am new to this board, I have a 1997 4 runner 3.4, 5 Speed

I have done some little things, but am about to lift it

I was wondering if using a Rev Tek 3 inch lift, what is the max tire size that I can use...will a 295/75/16 fit with some trimming? I dont mind trimming the bumpers or whatever else if it is needed to fit these..i guess they are like 33.4 inch...I currently, with a stock height truck have 265/75/16's which are 31.6

I hear 285/75/16 is the max, but figure a little bigger may squeeze in

will be used on the street, but also some off roading on the beach and winters in New England to head up north for snowboarding

Any advice on lifts and tires is appreciated, I really dont want to do a body lift..

also here are some pics of my truck

Thanks, Tim

The general rule of thumb with the Revtek is 32" tires are the best match. Revtek says 33's, but pretty much without fail, 33's rub like the dickens when compressed. I can't help but wonder whether Revtek ever wheeled with their lift and 33's, or whether they looked at it in the parking lot and said "yep, they fit"

But, since you say you are prepared to trim, that is half the battle. You will almost certainly rub to one extent or another, but a sawsall and a BFH will probably take care of much of that problem.

I'll tell you right now, there is no way you're going to fit 33.4" tires with the revtek lift. But you could do a 2 inch body lift on top of it. I personally would never do a BL but some people like them. My 32x1150x15's rubbed on my revtek. I think you should search your options and find something better than revtek. There is plent options out there. Check the Lift FAQ sticky note at the top of the page. There good stuff in there.

what kit do you recommend?

who makes it?

is there anything bigger than a 3 inch available?

I hear there would be axle or other problems if lifted more than 3 inches?

please give me any and all details

thanks

Read here https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f31/suspension-lift-faq-44741/

Dont go anymore than 3 inch suspension lift, and if you go with 3 make sure you do a diff drop.

Your CV's would hate you, your ball joints would be bordering on unhappiness and stacking spacers is generally not a good idea anyway. Not to mention that it would ride like a buckboard.

3" or so is the practical limit for suspension lifts before you begin blowing things out. If you want to go higher, you need to look into the more advanced lifts that reposition the diff to make it happen.

Do a search on the subject, this has all been covered several dozen times.

if your going to cut the fenders anyways, then why not cut it out to fit them with the stock suspension. then the only lift will be from the tires keeping your c.o.g. lower.

I run a 84 truck so it is different for me. it has 35's with 3 inch suspension and 2.5 inch bodllift. the body lift was installed for drive train modifications. buick V6 my fenders are uncut and I have very little scrubbing at full stuff with the wheels turned. I run 35x15.5x15 tsl's and ran 33's for years with no scrubbing except against the frame in the rear. with just a body lift I had scrubbing with 33's but very little. then when I added the suspension lift I had plenty of room.

you are talking ifs and from what you are saying about your wheeling then a body lift is a simple answer. you could get a roger brown 2 inch body lift and crank the tbars a little for what your talking about doing with the truck.
my freind drove his 86 IFS with 35's he had a 3 inch body lift. he drove it like that for several years. the body lift is easy enough to do and raisng the bumpers and stuff isn't real hard if you know some fab guys. and for the gap that remains get some pond liner from your local home depot and make some new covers to fill in the gaps.

we're not talking rock crawling, mud racing here just simple week end stuff nothing too serious from what you have posted. and if your really concerned about safety issues with body lifts. the truth is if your in a head on collision then your in for a ride anyway you go. all the other things are a benifit. it allows you acess to the frame rails give you more room under the truck between engine and body. it give you more under hood room in most cases. and to put one on is pretty simple.

just my two cents. I've had one in my truck for 18 of the 19 yrs I have owned it. I have been rear ended had two other wrecks up front and my body stayed put no problems. the rear end hit was so hard it knocked me across the intersection and totalled the truck that hit me. he hit a reese hitch attached to the frame. all it did to my truck was dent the bumper and break off the hitch ball.

I have a '97 3.4L also, and the first thing I did to it a couple months ago was the Revtek 3", plus Goodyear MTRs (305/70/R16). That tire is a little over 31" tall, and it does rub pretty badly. I wheel sometimes on some pretty gnarly rocks, so the suspension gets tweaked real good, and the tires rub like CRAZY on the upper a-arms and on the rear corner of the front fenders.
However, I recently got new rockcrawler series 91 wheels that have a wider offset, so that solved the a-arm problem. Still rubs on the fender, but I hope to install flares pretty soon.
After that, I'm probably gonna add a 1" or 2" body lift, and Daystar springs all around.
Have fun!
