Extending Front Diff. Breather Question

Extending Front Diff. Breather Question
I am attempting to extend the breather on the front diff. but the 90 deg. union fitting will not fit. There is not enough room for me to turn it to screw it into the top of the diff. The part I am trying to use is p/n 90904-04001. This is the same p/n listed on previous Threads regarding this mod.

i STILL havent been able to locate my tranny's breathers, nor extend the current breathers due to time restrictions, but my 2nd gen had none of the other breathers exteneded....how stupid of toyota.

Corey, The best I can figure is that the front case would have to be taken apart to make this 90 deg union work. It simply will not turn much past 1/4 turn before it hits the case.
I guess I will order a straight union & p/u a 90 deg rubber fitting & see if that might fit.
914runner, It's the same breather that both the front & rear diffs have. I simply unscrewed it & replaced it w/ the same 90 deg union I attempted to put in the front diff. case. A straight one would be to tight once a hose is put on it.

I just did my front one. I poped the cap off the stock breather and slipped the tube over the end of the breather with a hose clamp. It's a bit harder to find a tube large enough to fit over the breather and can withstand the temperature of the engine. I need to switch my tube I used, because I don't think it can handle the temps. The transfer case breather is easy to get to, I saw it the other day while I was hanging out under the truck.

upndair, I was told that the tranny on an automatic used the dipstick tube as its breather.
Is that true? Just looking for a 2nd opinion.

I don't know where the breather is on the auto tranny.
Take your existing breather out, head over to Lowes. Find the display with the barbed fittings. You'll find an exact match to the threaded portion of your breather. Then using a hose (I used fuel line.) Clamp the fuel line to the barbed bitting and run it up to the top of the engine compartment somewhere. I used a cheap fuel filted on the upper end to cap off the top of the hose.
When running from the back, I T'd the breather lines from the Tranny and T-case so that I had a single rear line coming up in the engine compartment.

For the front breather on my '89, I just popped the cap off and slipped a hose over the stub. I used a little sealant and a hose clamp since there's not much to hold onto. I'm a little worried about how the hose will handle the heat this summer, but so far it seems to be fine.
For the rear, I used a 90 degree fitting - it directed the hose away from the exhaust and made it easier to allow for axle movement without making the hose sag.
I've seen the t-case breather - it's the same as the diffs. I'd like to work on it, but it looks like I'd have to run a hose forward along the top of the t-case & tranny to the rear of the engine and then up. Either that or drill through the floor and come up into the center console.
