Okay, boy do I feel stupid asking this but I just don't know and would rather feel stupid than do something stupid. Where exactly is the drain & fill plugs for the transfer case? Does anyone have a picture? When I tackle the diffs to switch to Amsoil, I would like to do the transfer also.

I don't mean to beat a subject to death, but can anyone give a little hand? I would like to attack it, & the differentials, this weekend. There is another plate in the area, obviously not the skid plate by the oil pan. Is this the area I should be looking into? Thanks. :cry:

Look at the back of the t-case
On the passenger side, there will be a plug(either 14mm or 17mm) thats the fill plug
And below that on the bottom back of the t-case is the drain plug(also 14mm or 17mm)

Make sure to open the fill plug before you open the drain plug!!!

No, actually, thats wrong.....

First, crack the fill plug to make sure its not locked into place...
Then remove the drain, that way the oil comes out slower with no rush, you are less likely to have an oil mess, granted, its 90w and thick, but none the less, better way to do it...

Crash...that's what I said - open the fill plug first, and then open up the drain plug. You want to make sure that you will be able to put oil in before you drain all of the old oil out!

On my 1999 Automatic V-6 the drain and fill are in the back of the transfer case and use 24mm sockets to remove the drain and fill plugs. They get torqued to 27ft/lb and use part# 90430-18008 for the plug gaskets which Toyota says you should replace each time you remove the bolts. More info and specs on my synthetic page...

Thanks guys. I am going to crawl under the truck right now and take a look. And tomorrow I will go to Toyota to get crush washers for the differentials. Do I need crush washers for the transfer case also or a gasket?

I just want to make sure. The driveshaft that is connected to the rear differential is also connected to the transfer case, right? If so then I am in the ball park. I found two bolts which I believe are the plugs. They are both on the back of what I believe to be the trans case. Both are facing the same way (not like the differentials where one is facing down & the other towards the top.)

Only one is higher up and to the right (fill plug) and the other is, duh, lower (drain plug.) Tell me I know what I am doing. Feel free to make your own joke now.

What you said sounds right. When I mentioned "plug gasket" that is the same as "crush washer". Good Luck. Oh and dont forget to get the hand pump shown on my page or you will have a real tough time re-filling

Yeah, I already bought that from Griots. And I just ordered an extra quart of each lube from Amsoil just in case.

A hand pump is the only way to go. I have changed fluids with and without a pump. A buddy to help with the pump is also handy. My son and I did his Sequoia and it was a piece of cake with two of us.
