Clutch pedal will not fully retract?

MY 96 SR5 4runner's clutch will somtimes not fully retract. After I press it in to shift, some times it only comes back half way. Clutch is still working fine but I will physicaly have to pull it backup with my foot some times to its original resting position.

211,000 miles and the clutch is supposed to be new. I just bought it 4 months ago. I'm sure it is that is, that would be a dam long time for an origanal OEM. Spring maybe? Lacking lube or somthing?

No sqeaks or anything. Can't feel friction by any means when using it. any help would be appreciated.

check the return spring on the petal and also see if the pivot on the petal is all gummed up with crap. that is where i would start.

it'd be easy to diagnose yourself once you shine a flashlight up on the clutch pedal and take a look. My bet is it's the spring not so "springy" any more. I replaced my return spring with a linear return spring from a hardware store, and it works well. Just take a look and tell us what you find!

I just ordered a return spring for a 2nd gen 4runner to get rid of that torsion spring. It had been making creaking noises and today it got worse and didn't come back up the last 1/2 inch. Cost me $6 and I should have it tomorrow.

Check this out Unhappy99 Spring Mod

This is what I did, linear spring as stated above, and I am very happy.

Hey in a second part to this question how much does a new clutch with installation cost? OEM and maybe a price on a good aftermarket stage 2 or somthing similar?

I tried searching but i can only find do it your self stuff...what would the cost be at a respectable mechanic? Resurfaced flywheel ect...the works.
