22r ever a forklift engine?

anyone know if toyota used the 22r in a forklift? Did a google search didn't come up with anything. Just wonder if anyone knew. If they did i could just track down the parts and use my 85 22r 4runner. So it's sorta 4runner related. TIA

actually i do remember reading a while ago that the 22r was (and still is) a fairly common engine for the toyota fork lifts. i only ever read it one place (and i forget where i read it) so i don't have multiple sources to confirm it, but it is something i remember seeing.

Well I'm positive that Toyota used the F series motors like whats in Cruisers in fork lifts, so why not the 22r? Sounds plausible at least.

Yep, I heard the 22R was in forklifts too.
We had a Bobcat with a 3cyl Suzuki car motor (retrofitted) in it - worked great!
We had a portable sawmill with an air cooled VW motor to run the saw - also worked great.
Wonder whey no one uses the 3vze for anything? (ducking and running trying not spill my beer...)

We have a fleet of Toyota forklifts where I work.
I drive several daily, including newer Nissans.

They are a 4 banger, and run on propane.
I would have to check though if it is the 22r or not.

i think the 20R and 22R may have been used in forklifts. haven't seen them myself.

i do know that most of the newer gas powered ones have a 4Y or 4Y-E in them. sort of a distant cousin to the R engines. the 4Y is 2.2l and from the last torque/horsepower chart i saw, had something like 60hp and 160lbs of torque.

the 3Y and 4Y were used in pickups in europe and africa, as well as those funny looking 4wd vans that toyota used to sell here.

thanks guys. I checked that one link before with the chart. I still need to get around to going to the toyota forklift shop and checking. I think i'll just bring in the manifold and see if they sell the adapter or see if it's close enough to get it machined to work. I want to use a 22r in a free samuri chassis i got so i'm trying to do it on the cheap. I want to put a scout power steering box on there and since my sammy axle is without calipers. I'll just fix that by installing a chevy axle and go with coils. Today i cut down the toyota crossmember to start fitting the toy drivetrain in there. I'll have to cut out the old crossmembers on the sammy. Sorry for the book...
