Well... 3 link with coil overs would definitely be the "best"
But if you wanna go an easier/cheaper route, you should look into the TG lift kit... with a 4-5" you can fit 35s, and some fender trimming you can easily fit 37s.
I'll be going with a 3" TG eliminator kit with my 4Runner and running 35s... you only need the classic lift though, because you already have an 85.

If money and time is not An issue than 3 or 4 link is a great way to wheel. Although leafs work really well for most and are 1/4 of the price. Common swaps like ruf / wagoneers or 44044 springs up front work great , 63s / f150s or Mazda springs work well in the rear also and all can be picked up cheap from wrecking yards / craigslist or local wheelers. Most out of the box lifts dont flex or ride good at all unless you slend big money. I would not look into locking the front until you invest is some birfs. Stock yota birfs don't like 33"+ tires when wheeling hard. For 37s you will need some longs/dirty 30s ect with upgraded Hub gears. Unless you like changing birfs on the trail. I chose trail gear for my high steer mainly because of cost and lifetime no questions asked warranty. Look into a ubolt flip kit , There's lots of kits out there, I went with sky manufacturing for there quality.

Also if you plan on running 37s you mite need to do some trimming or relocating, ive seen 35s stuff the firewall if the suspension is set uo to flex . You may want to look into moving your alxe forward a few inches. You can do this many ways , longer front springs, drilled perches,extended drop hanger ect ect. Remember out of box same length springs with lots of arch don't flex, longer springs with less arch flex alot easier and stretch your front end to help with clearance and approach angles. You can get your lift in other ways thAn just arch in the springs.

I'll look into getting some aftermarket birfs as well.
The longer leaves makes perfect sense.
Do you think the Trail-Gear setup I listed above makes sense? Or should I go with some older springs like you were saying?

i dont think u need the hd springs those are stiff from wat i hear.. and that would make a good mudder but to perform and flex well on rocks i think the chevy 63s or the f150 rears and rears up front are what alot of ppl run now i think the 63s are only going to give u about 3 or 4 inchs of lift in the rear from wat ive been told
for rocks i personally em a mud person only i doont like that crawlin rock crap which equals brakin alot of stuff i like to sling thee mud.

I want to make a very capable rock crawler, if I can keep it driveable on the street, that would be best.
My dad has a 1981 CJ7 that he rock crawls. I wanted a Yota.

I would not reccomend an out of the box lift , First of all it's 1800$ ! That's just dumb ! And will ride and perform like ass. IMO. You can link it for 1800$ easy.

I'm strongly leaning toward linking it, after going reading through 3linked84's build, I fell in love. That thing looks amazing.
I think I'm goin with the 3 link set up. Now I just gotta figure out how to do it and what is the best.

I'd go link over 1800$ leafs anyday. And for your yota there a lot of info out there on 3 and 4 link set ups . I know trail gear makes kits specifically for yotas as well as other company's. 3link front and triangulated 4 link rear is the route I'd go if I were linking up.

I've decided to do what you're doing to yours. The Chevy 63's along with some Rancho 44044's.
That way I can keep it drivable on the street, something I could drive all the time.
Your build is coming along very nice, wish I had have the know how you do. Keep it up!

the front springs wanted to droop more but i'm still running nearly stock shocks in the front. next project for me is shock hoops and longer shocks

I've seen your build page Liveoffroad, I like yours. I was thinking RUF, but I ended up purchasing brand new replacement 63's, so I'm thinking it should level out fine.
My plan is to run 37" GoodYear Wrangler MTR's w/ Kevlar.

Downside to ruf packs is they sag and are half worn out to begin with. Most people I know with ruf packs are always swapping out leafs due to sag and getting tweaked. My 44044s did lift the front a good amount. About 6in up front with the 5in shackles and springs. It matches the rear 63s well . I will be pulling out the bottom leaf and possibly 3rd leaf of the front pack to get it down an inch or so and to get some more flex out of them. 44044s and stock waggys are also 2 1/2"wide rather than stock yotas that are 2 3/8" witch helps with them not twisting or bending.
