Tire Size vs Gearing issue
I have a 86 Toyota Truck 4x4.....ready to get some tires and I have a question regarding gearing issue. Would I be safe to run 33x12.5x15 on stock gears for the meantime. Please advise....I do not want to invest money and later down the line I mess up my stock gears....

You will be fine I had my truck lifted with 33 inch tires for like two years before I had money for the 4.88 gears you will need to run those tires and have decent power.

my buddy has a '87 standard cab 22r and can roast 33 12.5 15 bfg mud terrains on dry pavement but as previously mentioned you will lose use of 5th gear as for clutch he went through the first one pretty fast (but he was really hard on it) then got a stage 1 centerforce and has ran that for a few years now just fine

i dont know about any 22r roasting any tires but i ran 33x12.50r15s on my truck for over a year and they ran fine dont plan on spinning them or nothing with stock gears

Its a pretty hateful experience driving under-geared. Under-geared with the 22RE and hills have to be done in really low gears and you can only do about half the speed of other cars. With the 3VZE the power is better, but you suck down gas like no tomorrow. Even 31s on stock 4.10s was a miserable experience.
I'd buy the new gears, then the tires.

I'm going with 235-85-r16's with 4.88's. I also live at 7,000 feet & have a lot of hills around, so I will probably enjoy the extra pulling power. I will also be setup to run 255-85 r16's in the future without losing too much power...
