Chevy 4.3L V6 into a 91 4runner

Hey my 22re is starting to go, and I heard that its not too hard to sway a chev 4.3L. So my questions are which year chevys are better for this? would i be able to keep my toyota 5 spd tranny? any disadvantages that you can think of?

Let me know
Thanks in advance

you can use your stock 5 speed but you'll have to buy an adapter, i'd personally use a fuel injected model 4.3 but thats personal preferance... i'd also personally get an s10 5 spd and use the toyota trans case... somethin tells me that i'd be replacing a transmission later on down the road if i were to use my stock trans.... i'm waitin for my engine to go so i can swap it in, i'd hate to get rid of a good motor... but i'd prob go with a 3.4, plenty of power and superchargable but still toyota

Why? Swap it out now so you can sell your old motor while its still a good motor.

I have a 90 p/u with a 94 4.3L vortec out of a 94 asto van. its the CPI motor with 195 horses. It has plenty of power to turn the 35s that are on it. It also has the Chevy auto trans behind it, then the toy trans case. the wiring harness is a painless harness and the Chevy CPU. it has the stock toy harness in the cab so everything works. if you have any questions feel free to PM me and ask, I will do the best I can to answer. Also, the guys at this site are very knowledgeable and a huge help.

i have been researching this too. and i think i would prob go with a 96-00 model cuz there are programers and chips that you can buy that plug extra hp in. and you can get a supercharger for it to but kinda spendy tho. what i am doing is a 99 motor, 700r4 auto, advanced adpt for the toy t-cases with painless wiring harness and chip it or whatever else i feel the need to do to it. cuz i am pushing 37s right now with a 22re. how ever i did do pretty good driving from seaside oregon to boise idaho in 7 hours. a really good thread to check out is Fillsrunner4.3 swap he is on here some where his looks awesome. i am sure he'll chime in soon.

I run a 92 CPI in my runner. Like mentioned before I would go with a chevy tranny and the Toy T-case. I see no need to chip my truck, or a supercharger. I run 36" swampers and 4.88's, and have no propblem at hwy speeds pulling grades. I also saw no reason to use a painless harness, but I am pretty good with the wiring, which was a huge savings. Let me know if you need any help.

I've used Painless wiring harnesses for two swaps now and the harness was defective both times. Bad MAF burnoff circuit in a TPI harness and the IAC motor wired backwards on an LT1 harness.

You can't beat OEM wiring, and it's really not that hard to figure out. And it's usually thrown out with the donor car, where the aftermarket harness costs $500-$800.
