Opinions on Flywheel

So Im looking at buying a new flywheel. Im not looking for anything fancy, just stock really, but wont break on me 3 months down the road. I talked to Kragen today and they said 50 bucks plus 80 core. Does anyone have any suggestions/comments on the one they would sell me at Kragen. I need one by Friday next week(15April2005) so some places are out of the question. Any ideas? Thanks.

I have a 1995 4Runner with a 5 speed and the 3.0. I put in a heavier weight flywheel several years ago and I really like it. It's made by Centerforce and I bought it through Downey. I feel it helps the engine hold RPM's on a long incline as well as prevents real bogging down when starting off the line. Some may argue this point but myself and two of my buddies are happy to be running it.

I would NOT recommend a heavier flywheel for a 4 cylinder engine. The heavier flywheel on that motor DOES really bog it down.

I looked into the Centerforce but it's a little pricey for me. Do you know where I can find a reliable one for under 200?

Okay so no heavier flywheel on the 4cyl. I'm guessing cause the weight saps all the pwoer. But then does a lighter flywheel add any benefit?

i checked rockauto.com... they want $60 shipped for a Brute Power flywheel, with a flywheel step of +.020" ( ) and there's no core charge, part #50103

In checking out Brute Power they seem to be pretty good, but I haven't had any 1st hand experience with their product.

You should be able to get it to you by thursday at the latest if you order it now, or before monday at least.

i bought my flywheel at schmucks, i think it was $50. take a good look at the one they give you though, mine had a crack in it so i made them ship it back and get a new one. i don't deal with schucks/kragen unless nobody else has one. most of my dealings are with napa, autozone and cut rate(local chain).

Cool thanks Green91, I will look into that one.

Jimbena-I never heard back from you man, are you still up for helping a noob replace his clutch? A friend of mine might be able to help me next weekend but things arent going smooth, so Im not sure its gonna work out. Let me know, thanks. Thanks everyone for the replies!!

I have the heavier Centerforce flywheel on my '85/22RE and love it. Been on for about 7 years now, works well off-road, a lot harder to stall the engine and it really helps at very low RPMs. I've heard the 22RET flywheel is heavier than the 22RE and can be swapped out directly, not sure on the details, though.

A lighter flywheel will help the engine rev up faster, so if you do a lot of high RPM running, then that is a better choice.

Whats the stock weight so I can shop around. I'm due for aclutch soon. I've had "hood chatter" for about the last 20k mls. And now if I do a quick shift itll slip alot between gears.
I do a fair amount of towing my motorcycle trailer. Would the heavier flywheel help me hold hills on the highway any. or would I be better of stock. (Plus if you've noticed my other thread I'm in the market to cam the motor I'm just trying to figure out which cam is best) So I'll soon have some more power::wink::

Does anyone know what seal to get for the main shaft seal? They have like 5 different ones. W55, W56, R150F? Im thinkin R150F, but please correct me if Im wrong. Thanks, I think Im gonna go with the RockAuto flywheel. Ive never bought from them before but hope they have good products.

That's good to know. I've had a couple of friends complain about the heaver flywheel in the 22RE - saying the truck was way slower. My experience with the 3.0 V6 has been very good as you described - espeically in low RPM's. Also helps keep the RPM from decaying on a long slow incline.
