1st real off-road test of my FJ

I took the family camping last weekend at a local ORV spot that was once an old lead strip mine. The area consists of about 1,000 acres of 'sandy dunes' and some wooded trails. I hadn't actually planned on taking my FJ out (too new yet..lol) as I rode with my son in his 'new' 87 Toyota pickup (7in of lift w/35's). That is until he somehow fried his starter out in the middle of nowhere. So I ended up towing it back a few miles to the campsite. I attempted to pop start it by pulling it with FJ but to no avail... even with the truck in 4th, as soon as the clutch was popped all 4 wheels dug into the very loose sand. I was amazed at the FJ's pulling power. It would easily drag the 87 in the sand with its wheels dug in. In fact i ended up snapping my 20K lbs strap. Afterwards I tried some steep sandy hills. The A-Trac (Awesome-traction..lol) works so cool. I hear it clicking and it climbed everything I attempted in very loose sand with stock tires and pressure. I went thru a couple of deep water holes one of which sent a wave of water over the hood. (that was scary, it certainly didnt appear that deep.)

In short.. i LOVE my FJ!!!!!!!!

LOL.. yeah the ORV area is made up from the tailings left over from the mining operation... the conservation dept claims any lead exposure is way low and not a health risk.... as long as you dont eat the sand. The actual camp ground is located some distance away.

I love seeing a rig nose deep in muck.

That's when you know you're having fun.
