4runner rear window

I have a 1993 4 runner and am beginning to have troubles with the rear window not wanting to go down. The prolem exsists using the exterior key switch and the interior rocker switch. I can hear a "click" in the rear of the truck when I activate the internal switch but the window will not move. If you beat on the tailgate while pressing the switch it works, sometimes. I have a friend who has a 1994 that is having trouble with their window going up. The window works fine going the other direction. Please help, you cannot open the tailgate unless the window is down.

Likely a relay has gone bad. That is the classic sign, the click you hear is the relay coil operating, but if the contacts are pitted or burned, nothing happens when they try to close. The reason you hear the click is that the noise of the window motor, that would normally mask the click, is not present:

Hey Did you ever figure this out?...I have the same damn clicking sound from my truck when I try and close the window. It rather sucks driving around in the rain with no back window?

As noted on the web page I posted a link to above:

"But if the electrical contacts inside the relay are pitted or burned, they will not make electrical contact, even though the magnetic coil is pulling them together (the source of the click) and thus the load they control (i.e. the rear window motor) won't run (and thus makes no noise) and you now hear just the relay clicking. You can usually feel which relay is clicking with a finger touched to each relay in turn in the rear window module."
