Has any one converted or can I convert my 96 2.7l tacoma to run on E85? Is it worth it and what would have to be dun? From what I understand its basically changing gas lines and filters. But im told the MPG is a lot less. The price of gas is killing me and I really need a truck for work. I do construction. I was looking a hybrid civic tonight but at 23k for the car payments would be over $400 a month I just cant add that to my bills not even thinking about insurance in the truck a new car and my motorcycle.

they sell Chevy S10 trucks that run on both gas and E85

from what I have read you burn E85 10% more than gas so if the price in only 30 cents less than gas then you will not save any money

the conversion to e85 is less about saving you money, and more about using a more abundant resource to fuel vehicles...

I dont know from what i can figure here in Ft collins and in denver its allmost $1 cheeper. Its starting to look like it could save me some money.

Ok so I got the video to work and it really dident tell me any thing new. I already know and understand that E85 is in no way the answer to the big problem. The reason I want to be able to run it in my truck is that I can get it locally and and its about $1 cheaper a gallon. I just want to save a little money for now till I can come up with something better. I still believe clean diesel hybrids are a much better option but no one is making them yet. I already drive as little a possible and eavry one can make all the arguments they want for driving less but lets face it if people like me cant get to work with there tools then you cant have a house to live in or a building to work in. I cant just ride a bike to the office its not an option for me.

I would love to get diesel but for what it would cost to put a new motor with a hole new fuel source in my tacoma I could get a new car. Im not about go out and spend 40 grand on a new full size truck I don't need that. Im hopping to put a few hundred bucks in to my truck to save a little at the pump with the hopes of holing out for something better like hybrid as a second car in a year or so.

no matter what, if your burning something its gonna produce greenhouse gases...only way to get around it is to run electrically, with hydrogen, etc...

if you want to switch do propane, e85 is never gonna make it here, and it's not as efficient as petrol

I just heard of a methanol injection system that can increase your gas mileage 30-40%. It's still in the developemental phase, and should be available in 3-4 years. It basically works like nitrous injection, but instead shoots pure methanol. You'll need to buy the methanol and the kit, hopefully saving money somehow in the long run. I liked the idea because it sounds like it should be a more or less universal application, works on any gas engine, and no performance losses.

The demand for production of E85 will cause the cost of corn to go up accordingly and guess what eats corn...alot? Cows which bring us milk and guess where the price of milk will go along with the cost to produce more corn? It will effect the cost of anything that's associated with corn and I'm not surer I want to pay those prices since it'll cancel out any gains from E85.

E85 isn't the answer for the majority of this country.
