Question 3.0 to 22R-E?

Hello Fellow toyota enthusiasts,
I am looking at buying a 91 toyota extended cab with a 3.0 (blown Engine 257K)
And i am wondering how hard is it to put a 22R-E engine / tranny in (from a fab standpoint,
Can i reuse the drive lines / axles (ifs)
Can i reuse the T-Case?
I am planning on putting a 22R-e Wiring harness in... (with a 22R-E ECU)
The guy said he will part with it for $650, about 20% tread on 31s, some rust underneath from driving in the sand.
http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/cto/3439364837.html
Do you think it is worth $650, and i may have a connection to get a 22R-E Engine / tranny / wiring.... not sure yet will know tomorrow afternoon.
But basically how much fab work is nesscary and what parts am i going to need to do the swap?

Just a quick question and not shooting holes in your plan here. How hard would it be to drop a 3.4 in there? I am not aware of the differences in the blocks. I know little to nothing about either of those engines. I have a 22re and I have built it as much as I was willing to build it. 40 over, cam, head work, valves, and supra afm. It is better than stock will run down the road just fine, but it seriously lacks power. For what it is I cannot complain, but going from a 6 to this will be a bit of an eye opener.

It doesn't mention anywhere if the truck is a 5 speed or auto. That will make a difference in this conversation.
If you can get the motor/tranny/ecu cheap enough then it might be worth it for a temp motor and I haven't ever done this downgrade. If you plan on lifting the truck and running on the highway then you might consider other options.
Are you looking for economy? The newer 3RZ-FE 2.7L is even a better option in my opinion with 177 ftlbs of torque according to wikipedia.
The 3.4 is pretty close and a lot of stuff fits without fab work. Lots of writeups on it.
4.0 1uz-fe motor (best always has vvt-i valve system) sounds and runs great with the auto

I get better gas mileage in my 2003 4runner with a 1gr-fe 4.0 v6 with 254 hp (189 kW) and 270 lb·ft (366 N·m) on 87 octane and 285 hp (213 kW) and 289 lb·ft (392 N·m) on 91 octane (again according to wikipedia). When I phoned a local wrecker the motor cost 1000 and the transmission and transfer case was 700 pulled and delivered. Keep in mind that the motor they quoted only had 37 000 km on it but you would have to pay more for the controllers to go with the motor.

There is also the inline 6 route with motors that range from 170hp to 320 hp (depending on n/a or turbo and year/displacement)
In these I would look at doing a 2jz-gtte with vvt-i for the lower torque hooked up with an automatic transmission (looky looky its an A340 like the trucks)
http://www.jdmtigerjapanese.com/toyo...ssion-98.html#

Motor and ecu with transmission for 2k and that is also pushing some serious numbers and easy upgrades to bigger power. A lot of the truck guys use this for crawling around.

And then there is the "other" option. putting a 4.3 L chevy vortec under the hood .... BOOO!!!

Hope this helps... its all just my personal opinion and others will probably disagree with what I am saying because their beliefs are different then my own.

I suppose it is doable to convert from a 3vz to and 22r-e. You'll have to change the engine mounts, tcase crossmember, mess with the speedo....ect. Since it's all ready a V6 a 3.4L will drop right in and bolt to the existing drivetrain. At that point its just getting the 3.4 harness to work with the body harness of the truck. I would think this option is A LOT easier than reverting to a 22r-e.

Bc turning a 22re into a 3.0 donor in order to accept a 3.4 is a pain. But still fun hangout/BBQ time, eh Logan?

Forgot the clutch line, too. Plus would you have double fuel filters? And your center console won't work.
