strange knocking noise and stuttering
i have a 88 4runner the motor has a strance ticking noise i was wondering if the fuel injectors would make the noise cause it doesnt sound like a valve then the outher issuse is when i first get on the gas it has a stutter to it and last thing that has me some what stumped since im new to toyotas is when i rev it above 3000rpm when it idles down it trys to cut off i was wonder if anyone can give me any suggestion on this problems

Not sure on the 22R's, it's been a while since I've had one of those.. On the newer ones the solenoid (or the VSV's) for the carbon canister can make that annoying and sometimes quite loud ticking. It is independent of RPM and you'll notice it more when stopped.
Your second and third problems might be ignition related - check plugs and wires and coils etc.

constant tick is valves common on all vehicles!! could also be injectors however if you can hear it from the cab "Valves"

the issue with hesitation is usually due to induction there will be a slight hesitation since the Cyl has to draw the air in creating a vacuum if you want to reduce this hesitation you can use a high flow filter.
oil replacement for not too dusty situations.
as for your trying to stall but not it has to do with the electronic ignition and maybe a tune up would help just remember to use the specified plugs!!

answer?
the answer to my problem was that it was not really a problem, it is just a normal tick caused by my synthetic oil, no harm, but it went away with conventional oil. as for my stuttering, i installed an intake and completely eliminated that problem
