Greetings everyone....

Thanks to those who gave their feedback yesterday on best 4runner Stats.

I was looking into snorkels....It seems - from what I can tell - that there aren't any Snorkels that fit the '96 4Runner. They say you can take a safari for the Tacoma and make it work, but has anyone been able to successfully do this?

Any feedback or suggestions?

Yes, its easy. You need to buy one extra part. There is a write up here that is very detailed, i forget who posted it

Please do try searching on here before posting.

Both of the threads I have seen by you are two of the most talked about upgrades/mods on this board and have been for years.

I would recommend doing an Advanced Search and narrowing it down to the 3rd gen section.
Like I said in your supercharger thread - a quick search for these things will give you hours and hours of reading material.

WTF do you need a snorkel? Are you crossing water on a regular basis over your grill line?

I always laugh when I see snorkels on rigs that have no business running them.

For 99.9% of offroad rigs, they are pointless and just show me that all you are trying to do is look cool.

I'm upgrading. Starting work in search and rescue, and work for the Ranger Service.

I was a part-time paid firefighter and a volunteer firefighter for 5 years - I never had to cross water that deep in my vehicle.

Scotty was just asking whether you would actually be crossing water that deep.
It's your money, spend it how you want, but I think the same way Scotty does.

You could take the money you would spend on the snorkel and put it towards a good set of tires, which will be 100x more beneficial than a snorkel in most cases.

Agreed....I'm doing all of that. I just like being prepared. I live in the mountains of North Carolina. Lots of rivers and streams. Occasional flooding. New Tires, Lift Kit, Suspension, the works. Snorkel was just advice given, and I agreed that it might be beneficial. :-)

Just a heads up - it looks like you might just be copying and pasting the post you are wanting to quote.

Not just water proofing your interior, but all of your electronics, clips, injectors, coil packs, etc. You're gonna need to handle everything.

FWIW, if the water is that high, you have no business being in it. That is what helicopters and boats are for . All I am saying is that if the water is above the top of your tires, then its coming in your doors, sucking into your differentials, etc, and you don't want to be in it.

Sorry if I came across harsh, but I live in Colorado and am up in the mountains on a regular basis as well. It will be a cold day in hell before you ever see a snorkel on a rig I own. There is absolutely zero need for it. And I do routinely get calls to go save stranded rigs on trails.

Spend your money on something you WILL need. Not something you'll NEVER need.
