Need help removing bolt from gas tank flange
I need some advice...I just bought a 1990 4runner that wasn't running. I have discovered the fuel pump wont turn on, i get nothing when jumping B+ to FP.
I have removed the old fuel pump. I had to drill out all the bolts holding down the unit which holds the pump in fuel tank (I am not sure what this is called). These 6 bolts were so rusted out the heads just crumbled when I first tried removing them.
So I need to get these out, and being right on top of the tank I am nervous about using anything that could throw a spark.
If i cant remove them, would a bead of sillicone be sufficient in sealing this unit down? I have my doubts on this idea, but its the only alternative solution I can think of at the moment.

The only way is to remove the tank because even just drilling them out your going to get so much dirt in the tank your going to need to do a good job cleaning when your done.
I have drilled a sending unit out of a full tank but would never advise anyone else to try that.
It is called the fuel pump bracket
I would bet you live in the great Salt belt where every thing just rusts so fine.
It is nice to post your location.:jessica:

I had the same problem on my 81. I drained the tank, removed it from the mount. I then flushed the tank a few times with fresh water until I couldn't smell gas any longer. Then I took the tank to a machine shop, where they drilled the screws and used an EZ-out to remove the screws. FWIW, most silicone sealant is not fuel resistant, but something like this might. http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/revie...GlueReview.htm
