Auto to Manual Swap; A340 to G or W series

Ok folks, doing some work to get my 1989 x-cab back on road. 22re, A340F (about to give up). Cab crushed. Have donor 2wd cab (w/ clutch pedal, master etc.) Not sure which manual trans it has, but it doesn't matter, right? I need a 4wd trans specifically (R150f as opposed to R150). So I'm not lifting, or putting big tires or strain on the pu; doesn't have to be bulletproof. Just want a 4cyl 5spd manual instead of the auto for everyday driver.

What trans do I want to find; W56, G58, or R150F? Other?

Will it bolt right up?

Will t-case bolt right up? Would like to use what I have.

Driveshafts?

I am looking for the simplest answer/solution. Help.

Thanks.

You in/near washinton? My buddy has a good a340f he will sell for cheap if you decide to stay auto.

But i think the manual trans swap is worth it

every g or w series trans should bolt up. But im not sure on the years that stuff changed like the electrical/mechanical speedo for example.

r150f wont work unless you get a bellhousing off a r151f turbo 4 cylinder. But thats a hard thing to find.

Check the yakima craigslist. guy thought he had an r151f. Turns out he has an r150f tranny and transfer case with an r151f bellhousing. he was willing to sell it to me for cheap, but I was not up for the road trip for just the bellhousing.

Quick on the draw there 2DoorRunner! Actually, I am in western wa, but I'm not interested in staying auto. What I am curious about is whether the t-case (VF2A??) will bolt right up to G or W. "every g or w"??? You saying I can use the one I have in 2wd donor if it's a G or W? 2wd/4wd? Splines? Junkyard driveshafts instead of modifying current ones?

you need a 4wd g or w tranny and transfer case.

this should answer your question about the transfer case. http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/faq/parts/

And remember, you need the pedal assembly, and clutch hard and soft lines, plus the right electronics to run a manual.

this was the one I saw. It is actually an r150f with a turbo bellhousing, so you could connect it to your motor. I got a hold of them to buy that set up, but when they sent the pics it wasn't an r151f. Got verification of this from Deathcougar. Looked up pics and compared if to the r150f.

Funny that I have had that database link you sent me open in another tab for a while. Good clear info. Not quite enough to smarten me up tho. Emailed that guy in Yak, and will see what he says. That ad doesn't say anything about the tcase, but I'm about to find out. Wonder if mine would work behind that trans. No spline info listed for VF2A.

Any reason the 2wd clutch pedal assembly, lines, and master already on the cab wouldn't work?

All that stuff should work fine. The link I listed has a transfercase. You will need electronic controls and driveshafts.

Hey all I'm new here. Bought my first Toyota which is a 1986 4x4 ex cab turbo 22RTE auto. I want to swap the auto to a W56 manual. Anyone in the western wa area interested in making some money swapping it or help for free?

I believe you need to find an R series trans to work behind that turbo motor. R151F specifically, although an R150F might fit. You best research this good before you start pulling stuff out only to find what you are putting in will not fit...

I may be way off base, but better safe than sorry....

thanks for the reply but I was reading about the R151 and determined its unnecessary and the W56 fits fine.
