32x11.5x15 tires too much for stock 22re auto?
Hey everyone.
I know tire questions have been beaten to death, but I haven't seen this one.
I have a stock (for now) 86 4x4 with a 22re and an automatic, extended cab 6' bed.
I have some nice 15" aluminum wheels that I just refinished, and I want to throw some big tires on them (currently running stock steel wheel/tire size).
I've heard 33s are a little much, and 31s are fine. What about 32s?
Also, the aluminum wheels stick out about another 1" of offset to them (they stick out further) if that matters.
Truck runs great and I get about 19-20mpg on the freeway. Just worry about having 0 get-up and 0 power for hills with the automatic.
BTW The axle code shows 4.30 gears.
Tips?

Moved to the Newbie Tech Section.
It's more than just a diameter issue.
But to answer your question - a 32" tire over a 31" is not going to make THAT big of a difference.
It's all about comparing what you have now to what you want.
The type of tire will also play a small role as well.

that motor will handle any tire you give it. stock driveline on the other hand, 35's is even pushing it.

If you plan on getting a M/T or something your gas mileage will suffer coming from a street tire. The truck will handle a 32, that's not much different than the 31s that are stock on a lot of trucks.

Bottomline, 32's are a standard size tire and won't be a problem.
I ran 35's on my 22RE with 4.88's and it was fine granted it had a 5spd.
Yours will be a tad more sluggish but should be fine.

Update:
Went with a Yokohama Geolander 32x11.5x15. Nice aggressive tread pattern and they are SILENT!
They look awesome, just a little rubbing during flex but not bad.
It's def slower getup and go but not too bad. Freeway driving I think I'm getting better MPGs (haven't used a full tank yet so I'm still unsure). I have to drop it out of overdrive for hills which is kind of a pain, but I live in the flat lands of Minnesota so it's not too bad.

OMG are those A340f's are AWESOME!
It's the H cases that bring the suck!
I had a truck just like OP's that had aluminum rims and 33's that would powerbrake!
God what an IDIOT I am for selling it...
