Wing vs Solid Glass door question
Well I have always been able to search long enough here to always fine my question until now (and it still my be here somewhere)... What determines a 4runner to have wing or solid glass door windows? I have a 85 with manual roll up and solid glass, 86 with wing windows manual roll up and a 88 with solid electric.... Did they ever make a wing window door with electric? Can I gut my wing door and put solid electric in it or would it be be better to just paint the solid glass door? Thanks in advance for your reply

I was born in Harrison and was just thru there a couple of weeks ago. I have an 87 runner ( future project for the kid) and it has the wing glass and electric window. As to what determines which truck got which window, I dont know.

Wings, for the first gen. runner were only on SR5 models.
Dlx did not get Wings.
Third Gen pickup came in Standard trim, Dlx trim, and SR5. Only the Standard trim came with Wing.

I have 1986 4Runner dlx, and it has the vent window/wings.
It does not look like it had been modified.
Could have been a option?

The 88 4runner parts rig I have has fan switch located on the back side of the center console, but I can't fine any duct work that supports rear heat/AC...It also has powered windows, mirrors, antenna and cruise switches...what other options were available on a 88 runner?

The heater is under the center console and has no air ducts, it just splits it to the left and right. Other options available is maplight, sunroof, elelctric windows, mirrors, locks, cuise control, SR5 gauge (tachometer), glovebox light, electric antenna, two different styles of door panels, rear pockets for the passengers, bucket seats with some adjustment options, door pockets, inclinometer, low level fuel light, rims, striping, a drop light that connects by your hood release. Might be one or two more. Not all of the options will be supported by your main wiring harness. Crusie control and glove box light is two that come to mind, if your truck is a base modle.

Note that the regulators between vents and non-vents are different.

I hear that the doors are essentially identical and the vent windows drop in (there are quite a few on eBay right now), but if you want to re-use your door panel, you might have to do some cutting.
