What is this connector for?

First off its a 1987 22re, I was fixing a small coolant line to the intake manifold and i found this connector taped up just hanging there... Anyone know what it is for?

My old 86 4runner had like 2 or 3 connections like that, never knew what they were for but run just fine hanging there. A/C wasnt to cold so it may be the valve thing slacker mentioned.

That's kind of what I had figured, I don't have A/C so that makes sense. Just wanted to make sure.
