Water pump seized up on way home

So on my way home my water pump kicked it on me it's cold out so no worries about overheating as that never happened but blew my serpentine belts how big of a job is the water pump in to 3.0 L V6 3VZ-E I got a spare parts truck to use the pump off just don't know the quickest easiest way to do it as I got work Monday morning

Water pump is driven by the timing belt. So, follow the instructions for replacing the timing belt. You WILL want to replace the belt too. Will also need new coolant, because you'll be pulling the radiator out as well.

Are you sure it's the water pump?
You said serpentine belts - there's just one serpentine belt.
Does it still run?

We'll the drive for clutch fan seized and I'm pretty sure it's the water pump behind that and yes was just hoping it wasn't that big of job

If you have to drive it to work tomorrow...i suggest downloading a factory service manual....google "toyota factory service manual .pdf" find one thats same version of your truck.

Then hustle your butt down to autozone...get a belt, pump, coolant, etc....and get to cracking some wrenches.

The water pump is NOT behind the fan clutch. Sounds like the pulley seized. If your water pump seized, it would overheat rather quickly. I know.

Hopefully, the year of your parts truck is close to what you drive. The fan brackets changed on the 'newer' 3.0s.

The water pump is NOT behind the fan clutch. Sounds like the pulley seized. If your water pump seized, it would overheat rather quickly. I know.

Hopefully, the year of your parts truck is close to what you drive.
This sounds right. I just dealt with this not to long ago. Truck will run hot but not over heat. As long as you keep moving that is.

I just did mine, change timing belt, idler, thermostat, and I also changed the tensioner, mine was hydraulic, I think the 92's and earlier for 3.0 were mechanical tensioner.

The water pump is powered by the timing belt. If it failed truck won't run. You're more than likely refering to the idler bracket/water pump dummy bracket. The fan clutch mounts to that and the belts loop around it as well.

You're looking to replace this:



Since this doubles as a timing belt cover, you almost have to follow part of the procedure for changing the timing belt. You may or may not be able to do this without removing the radiator, but it would help immensely.

That looks nothing like a water pump for a 3.0, at least not mine.

If you've been following along, he said his fan clutch seized and broke the 'serpentine' belt. He didn't seize his water pump, but instead seized his fan bracket bearing.

That's exactly it wasn't sure before so this is just a pulley not anything internal like waterpump water pump is contained behind the circle to the right of the pulley right
