swapping transmissions
i have tranny and transfer case out of my 89 22-re i need to swap out the transmission with another one. i have yet to drain the fluid out of the tranny or transfer case. when i seperate the t/case from transmission will i have gear oil everywhere if if dont drain them i know there seperate fluids so i shiould be ok i would think......... ive never messed much with swapping transmissions, just clutches wich i know can be done without draining the fluid. thanks guys

Its possible for oil to be in the adapter area. The transmission has a rear output seal that could leak the the transfer case just has a bearing and don't think there's a seal there.
Why not just drain them and consider it your gear oil change for the decade?

Ok, well either way if they are full and you pull them apart try to keep them somewhat level. Oil will pour out of the output shaft of the trans if you angle it down.
