mileage for 88 4Runner
usually 16.5 MPG on mixed driving, but up to 18.5 for freeway only, keeping it between 65 and 70 miles per hour.
see signature for truck details.

lol. just dont go over the max on the sidewall, but the sidewall should never be used as a recommended air pressure. for my customers we always set the air pressure to what the manufacturer recommends, but I also go by the bulliten posted saying you need to increase air pressure when going from a P-metric to and LT-metric.

1988 4Runner no mods. stock wheels, exhaust, and intake. 4cyl 5spd.
just made a trek to my folks last weekend and averaged 21mpg. first fill up 19 second fill up 21 and third fill up was 22mpg. not too bad i don't think. this was mostly freeway or 2 lane highway driving. so 55-70 miles per hour

22r with Weber carb
Mid range cam Slightly higher than stock pistons 3 angle grind on valves timing: 9 degrees BTDC Mileage: 23 Hwy, City: Unknown truck spends majority of it's life in the dirt, and the mileage should change when the correct jets for my altitude are installed in the Weber. Also, no lift, 32's, and 4.56 gears.

'88 pick up w/ flatbed
- 20 mpg w/ stock 22RE - 32x11.5x15 tires and 4.88 gears - 1.5" lift - 20 mpg w/ 22RE from an '84 - same tires, gears lift as above - double row timing chain - P&P head / intake - 10.5:1 forged alum pistons, balanced & blueprinted - Crane Mild Cam '88 4runner -20 mpg w/ stock 22RE - 31x10.5x15 tires and 4.56 gears -17 mpg w/ 3L 7MGE from a Supra - 31x10.5x15 and 4.56 gears towing 3,500 lb enclosed trailer cross country -20 mpg w/ 7MGE - 32x11.5x15 tires and 4.56 gears all these are +/- 1 mpg which can just be attributed to driving habits or highway vs. stop / go driving. I've never really noticed much improvement on a whole tank highway driving, I think it's because both trucks have all the aerodynamics of a flying brick

Hey Guys, An mpg update,...I have'nt been able to do much with the truck, for the last 2 weeks. I also can't seem to keep every one else, from using it,.. it is the shop truck after all. The truck has been returning, 22-24.5 mpg's, almost all city, for the last 2 tanks of fuel. I cant seem to break 25, but I only drive it about half of the miles. So My nephew AJ (breaker of stuff ), has used the truck alot in the last few days, and brought it back on below E this morning, so I decided to, hook up the egr,.. run it out of gas,.. then add exactly, 1 gal., and see what I could get it to do mpg wise. Ya I know....I'm bored. Anyway, I put 2 gas cans and the jump pak, in the truck, and went off to run out of gas, it did'nt take long, till it started to sputter, and run out. On level road. I then added exactly 1 gallon of gas, and drove off, to run out again! Well,.. Your not gonna believe this,..but I just drove 37.2 miles on less then 1 gal. of gas, and the truck is still running!,.. I accellerated slowly, avoided late braking, and timed red lights so I would'nt have to stop as much. Most driving was at 52-55 miles per hour, with the motor running at 2000-2100 rpm's, starting and ending point, were the same place, so wind is not a factor. I'm running non LT, 265/75/16's @45 lbs pressure. I looked up the 97', epa ratings for a Camaro, equipped with 3800, 5 sp man, and it's hwy rating is 30 mpg! I'm going to see if I can squeeze, another 3 miles out of it, we'll see. If You see Me on the side of the road, just Wave. Thanks, Ki |
