I've got to tow a trailer across country and it's time to replace my clutch in my 92 4runner. I've done some online shopping and don't recognize any of the brands. Except for the Luk Pro Gold which my local shop carries in Boulder, Colorado.

Any advice on the clutch's? I don't want to spend a bundle as I'll probably pull this motor within the next 12 months. But I do drive in the mountains and tow stuff. I'd like to buy something online. Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Anyone heard of Gripforce? Inexpensive out of Southern California...

I bought a Luk repset clutch through the gripforce guys. Saved $100, free shipping, got here in 3 days. So far I'm happy. I figure it's a Luk so it's gotta be ok. Time for some wrenching...

Personally i just put in an autozone kit. It's a complete Valeo brand clutch (oem for lots of companies, apparently) in a duralast box, and includes new pressure plate, disc, pilot bearing, throwout bearing, AND grease for $85. Mine feels just fine to me! It's a 22re, but i'd think that the one for your v6 should be the same story. In your case, it only has to hold what, 150 hp and 185 lb/ft? That's really not that much. Did i mention the lifetime, no questions asked warranty?

Wow, that sounds like a great clutch deal. I'm pretty happy with the Luk I got for $150 Now time to get that behemouth trann/transfer case out of there. Anybody got any good advice. I was under there wrenching yesterday and regrouped because all I had was a wimpy floor jack and no assistance. Going to hit it again with my friend and more serious lifting capabilities.

I bought a complete clutch kit with flywheel from Marlin and all I can say is..outstanding..top notch products and quality people working there. Had a little problem with my order easy mistake they made . They didnt try and BS me they sad sorry and they overnighted me the correct part. Ask them what to do with the incorrect part and they said I could just keep it as it was their fault...Now thats customer service..u wont find that with your fly by night hawkers of parts....I do a lot of dealing with companies and have to say Marlin is at the top of my companies to deal with.....and really when you go to all the work to put a new clutch in do you really want to do it again later because you got cheaper parts..Marlin knows Toyotas and what works in them..Quality sometimes cost a little more..but in the long run its worth it..

Just the simple fact that you will be towing in the mountains no less justify's a high quality
clutch assembly. Spend the extra $$, you wont regret it.

I completely agree with the great advice given about quality clutch's. I've always liked the Luk and put a Pro Gold in my last toyota pickup. I did ponder about the stage 2 and stage 3 racing clutch's and all. I decided to put something that would be OEM or a little better but not overkill. I'm certainly not racing and an OEM quality clutch would do the job just fine. I do believe that there is a definite factor of quality with performance. I'm going to buy a 98 to 2001 4runner this fall and it will be my next state to state paintmobile/home.
