Well I started to rip everything apart yesterday. I'm going to try to get it running. It's definitely going to take some time but I thinking can do it. If not it's going to the scrap yard! Haha
So what all needs to be hooked up to hear it fire? Other then the obvious stuff like distributor, starter, alternator, fuel pump, injectors.

After more inspection the motor thats in the truck is 85-87 or something like that. The wiring harness that goes with the motor have the metal clip on plugs instead of the regular push-pull clips.
So far ive changed out the injectors and intake manifold to match the 89 harness. I just picked up a 94 motor for 150 bucks that im going to use as a donor or might try to rebuild it.

Well the harness for the 85-87 motor is the cab harness too and I really dont feel like swapping that out. So im going to stick with the 89 harness. I spliced the 89 one back together from the previous owner cutting it in half but Im about 99% sure I got all of the wires right but I just went ahead and bought another one so I know everything is correct.

I had a similar (but nowhere NEAR as ugly) project after my son and his teenaged friends worked on my 87 22RE (he was driving it at the time)
I went and bought a whole truck (minus the bed and a section of frame) for 2 reasons:
It gave me an INVALUABLE reference of how things were supposed to go,
It gave me an INVALUABLE source of misc plugs and parts!
I love a challenge so I'd press on !

I started taring into this 94 motor I just picked up and ive never done it before but the #3 rod bearing has a lot of play in it so I'm guessing that's where the rod knock was coming from.

Im going to hopefully get the truck in the garage in the next few weeks to pull the motor out and out of it and the 94 motor I got make one that will work.... Hopefully!
Still going to look around and see if I can find a donor truck for cheap. It would make life a lot simpler.

Stupid question but whats the standard main bearing size?
I was going to order a set of new main/rod bearings for my motor but noticed they had different thickness. Im not the smartest when it comes to internal motor work. This is the first motor ive ever tore into.

pop out the ones in your vehicle. they will say on the std, .010,.020.... most likely will need to size up. if there was a knock like you say, everything will have to get checked out by someone with knowhow...i would mark what parts cam from what cylinder... strip it all to bare block and keep your parts together. then ask the machine shop what NEEDS to be done. usually will cost ya like 40-50 bucks for a FULL checkup. then order your parts. if you need any little things or little parts, hit me up. i have an array of crap that might help. lol sensors, motor parts, harness, fuel parts. o/s pistons.. it goes on.
good luck with your project man.
