Ive got a few quick questions on my truck. Well first off the truck is a 89 4x4, with a 91+ motor in it. The wiring is all messed up and nothing matches up. Basically I just want to see if the motor even runs. (got it on a trade and know nothing about it).

So my question is... What all do I need to get the motor to turn over and fire?

I just cant decide if I need to keep it and fix it up or just get rid of it to save me the headache. But I think it would be a good beater truck to have.

Do you think you can get rid of it? If you don't want to mess with it how many other guys will.

Crusher? If you go that route be sure to part out as much of it as you can 1st.

 

Im sure if someone who really has the knowledge they could get it running and or the parts... Im pretty sure if you could find all of the sensors and whatnot from an 89 you could get those put in and it would be running on the old wiring harness/ecu.

I thought I was going to be able to get it running but just dont have any junk yards around me that have a few of these laying around to get parts off of.

But I did just put it on a few forums for sale and ill throw it on craiglist. Im sure someone would love to turn this into a mud truck.

I would at least give it a shot before selling it. All of your fuel hookups should be the same. You would only need a few wiring connections to hook up to hear it run. Then dial in the other ones once you verify it runs.

More money yur way if you do sell it

 

im with these guys, it appears to be a big headache especially if ur not very knowledgeable about these rigs. on the other hand if u have alot of time,patience and are somewhat mechanicly inclined, You can learn alot and turn it into one hell of a rig

I had a 94 Toyota 4runner and rolled it so I traded for this. First instinct on it was just get engine harness back together and would run. Well then I finally got it home and started looking at it and noticed the the motor was newer and nothing matched up.

 

I was looking at the pictures and i swear i saw the wiring harness just chopped in half, depending on what shape the runner was in after the rolling, u might have been better off keeping it for a trail rig. i have a 92 that was rolled, i cut off the bent up stuff and kept on driving it, now my 94 can just be a street queen.

 

Yeah I kicked my self in the ass for trading but he did end up saying the frame was bent on the runner. So it probably wouldn't have been any good to me.

How much you guys think it's worth?

 

What all needs to be hooked up for it to idle?

Fuel pump, dizzy, injectors, starter... What am I missing?

 

Just get a new harness for the correct year of engine. The only change would be the fuel injectors. There are different plugs for different years for those. I believe the break out for the 22RE is 85-87, 88, 89-95. I know the 1988 was the the only year for that plug. Why, I don't know.

These engines are really not that hard.

 

Well I've got the ecu/harness for the current motor. But it's also the dash harness, I was in the middle of swapping it in but lost interest pretty quick and thought how big a pain in the ass it was.

But I do know that the original harness does not match the motor at all.

 

is the truck auto or man, a auto harness is different than a man. harness and the plugs to ecm are diff also. right?

The truck is a 5spd. I don't have a clue if the harness is a 5pd or auto.

And another thing that's not on my side is I don't have any fuse box covers so I don't have a clue what needs to go where. Bc I'm missing quite a few under the hood and under the drivers side dash.

 

Does anyone have diagrams for the fuse box panels? I need one for the dash and engine bay.
