Front end help

Trying to buy truck for son. 93 truck 22re, one owner, 225000 miles, auto, 2wd. Timing replaced, overall avg to good condition, rides terrible, needs front end ball joints etc. Replaced i guess, I don't know anything about repairing trucks, any advice on possible cost to get truck safe for my son. Thanks in advance. Need to know what should be done and ball park price of repairs.

So, what all is worn out on the front suspension other then the balljoints? Have you check for play on the rod-ends or the wheel bearings? Are the shocks good or need replacing? And finally, what condition are the control arm bushings in? Worst case scenario, it will not cost you more then a few hundred dollars, and I am sure less then that.

By the way Rockauto.com will have all the replacement parts that are needed.

Not really sure, just looked at truck tonight, it was in great shape, new paint job, underneath truck was very clean, interior was spotless, engine looked like new, kids grandfather owned it from new, gave to grandson and now he is selling it. I just noticed the front wheels were worn bad on outer edge. Other than that it was perfect. He is asking $3750. I'm on very limited budget due to divorce and spending my last money I have to get him this for Christmas. I can do repairs by watching YouTube videos. I assume maybe just ball joints but again I do not know much about it. I just would rather spend that kind of money on something like this for him due to lower cost of repairs and easy to work on. Would $3000 offer be reasonable? Thanks again for advice. My son has been through a lot due to divorce and I'm trying to get this to divert his attention to something positive. He lives with me full time and we struggle but get by. Just can't afford to make a huge mistake on this purchase.

Some front end shops will check it out for you for free in my area. Look for some good references so they don't try and sell you some repairs you don't need. Prices for that truck is going to vary depending on your area and the condition. 3000 would be the normal price around here.

Thank you for verification of average price. This will be my first toyota truck, but after reading about them it makes me want one for myself too.

Like Terrys87 said, check in with some shops that check front-end alignment for free. From the tire wear you are describing, the truck is due for an alignment (and probably new tires). If the truck needs ball joints, I would replace them sooner rather than later for safety.

Good luck!

Tell us if you decide to buy the truck and post pictures!

Thanks for the help guy's. My first toyota. 93 2wd, one owner, 238xxx miles, engine is unbelievably clean, under hood looks like new, new paint job, alloy wheels, 3.5 fabtech lift kit, led headlights, new shocks, upper a arm, new stereo, speakers, interior led lights (which I don't like) new dynomax bullet muffler system, timing chain replacement last year, all service records... Found out only ball joints was the problem with front end... I'm so excited to give this to my son. I'm sure we will need your help in future so thanks in advance.

Nice looking little truck. Being an extended cab that will make it ride that much nicer. I always thought the two wheel drive standard cab rode great and that one being extended cab should be better and more room. Great find.

Thank you, ext. Cab is our only option, im 6'8 he is 6'3 and growing. I was really surprised at the leg room. I would really love some of the older trucks but just not possible.

Nice, it looks to be in good shape but I am not seeing any sort of lift on it from those pictures.

I haven't picked up the truck yet, just finalized the negotiations last night. The pictures are before the lift kit was installed. Picking up truck this week.
