fix or replace rear axel?

I have a 94 22re pickup 4wd,
I took it to a local mechanics personal shop about a month ago needing a couple of things checked out. The biggest was i had zero dope in the rear end and wanted all seals replaced. Well i called them today and they finally admitted that they have yet to work on anything (month long and havent touched it!) But they told my the rear end needed all seals and bearings replaced. Told me they can either order all the parts and replace them or they can swap out the axel with one the one of the mechanics has on a parts truck (told me the axle is the same including gear ratios)
Long story short, my question is which option would be better/ cheaper?
Any advise would be much appreciated.
P.S. sorry for grammatical errors

go for the new bearings, seals, and diff fill. You have no idea bout the condition of the barings and sals rear end from the parts truck, or when the diff was drained and refilled. AND, you won't have to just take his word on if the gears in the pumpkin matching the front end gears.

I'd go for the new bearings and stuff, if it was me......

Man that is so frustrating . Slow mechanics are the worst , a month is outrageous .

How long did he say it would take when you dropped it off ?

I'd go new seals / internals / fluids on your axle ...

Just got off the phone with the guy, got the chunk broke open and its no good... Broken teeth, ripped seals said that he has another diff on hand and will break it open and see if he can swap it. said that it was filled with water, a little dope and "something else" guessing previous owner put something in it to keep it running long enough for me to buy it... but they do have all the parts and will be fixing today.
