Engine replacement, What else should I look for?
Finally have a Reman engine in to replace my 90 4runnerbroken 3slo. The engine arrived yesterday and the work will start this Friday, I hope. I'm wondering what, if anything I should have the tech do to ensure a satisfactory install.
This is a remanufactured long block, (no oil pan, valve covers, etc). Is there any special considerations, parts that need to be replaced, that sort of thing? I ask because the last engine I replaced was in a 1956 chevy, in 1964. A 350hp 327 replaced a 235 blue streak 6. My crew and I did that job in a day and a half, this one is being done by a Real technician, in his garage, and is costing me plenty, so I want to have it done right. any and all thoughts are welcomed.
Thanx in advance, mark

My biggest problem with the engine rebuild was the engine harness. Make sure it is not damaged and the contacts are cleaned up. Make sure it's routed well and not hung up and tugging on something. Also, heatshield where necessary.
For me, the rest of the installation went relatively well.
Clean ALL of the parts, but make sure the cleaners you are using won't damage the part.

be careful when moving the radiator hoses around and you put the engine in, I bent one too far and fudged up the hose going into the heater core for my 22re.
I would inspect/replace all your radiator and vacuum hoses while your at it.
Make sure you have spare bolts, of all kinds of sizes to replace any ones that are rusted too much or stretched. Lots of loc-tite and RTV is never a bad thing.
