Not trying to bust your balls or anything, but that is one the most talked about items here on YT. A simple search for ball joint spacers will yield thousands of answers! Good Luck.

I have a bit of a question for alls who's been running these things.

I have beaten mine up pretty good, and in my recent (an unpleasent) front joint replacement, i found that i had bent one of the BJ spacer mounting studs so badly that it is going to need to be cut out.

They are an M8, 125 thread pitch, i believe. My question is, anyone have any luck finding that bolt in the length needed here? Other than ordering it online? Like to get it soon.

I have both spacers out of the truck at the moment, which is kinda funny to see, but need to get them back in sooner rather than later, thanks.

Here's my thread in which I came up with my decision not to run them.

http://www.yotatech.com/showthread.p...er+experiences

I think what it boiled down to for me, was that I'm not gonna run tires big enough to really need them without SAS. And I don't need a SA because I don't like rocks....they're not very forgiving.

I'm going for more of a...camping/expedition/bug out/emergency/survival/whatever, deal

Just make sure you think everything through before buying.

Sure, ball joint spacers can be added to a 4" IFS lift kit. All the "mild" lift options on the page below would apply as far as adding more height to an existing lift kit:

You can reduce all those problems by getting a skinnier tire. I also would reccomend you ditch the rear blocks in favor of some shackles or an add a leaf. Or even a leaf pack if you can afford it.

If I were going to run 33x12.50s on an IFS truck. I would just get a bracket lift. I don't think BJ spacers will give you the amount you need. they may, with some trimming or banging. I wouldn't run that wide of a tire though....It's just not worth it to me. The extra width doesn't help much off road, and it just causes problems when it comes to getting the right amount of lift, etc. Because if you're using IFS then you're probably not going to see alot of rocks, otherwise you'd already have done a SAS. And if you're not doing alot of rocks, or sand (which is a different story) I'd suggest a 33x10.50. The extra 2 inches in width will probably not be as helpful in mud as it is stressful to fit. I don't think it's possible to justify the use of a 12.50 wide tire on IFS...there's just alot more effective options for each situation.

Rocks: you might as well SAS and run 35's or bigger
Sand: You could stay stock if you're not jumping, or go Long travel to fit 33x12.50 or larger. The width would be more helpful here.
Mud: I don't think 12.50 wide tires have much if any noticable advantage to 10.50 wide tires in this situation. I've seen both in action and both have performed close to equally.

Save the money and run a skinny tire. They look better anyway.

Also, the most used gear ratio for 33's is either 4.88 or 4.56. Since you have a 3.0 I'd say 4.88 with either auto or manual tranny. But I haven't driven a 3.0 so 5.29 might be a better ratio. better wait and see what the others say.

I would add the bj spacers but use them for more travel not lift, then add a body lift and then something to get rid of the blocks in the rear. I think the bj spacers are worth it just for the extra travel alone, where else can you get an extra 1.5" of travel for about 100 bucks.

There are plenty of folks running rocks in an IFS truck w/ bj spacers. MY rig is being built up as an expo/all around rig and I take it everywhere (rocks, sand, highway, etc...). I actually like the lateral stability that the 12.5's provide, especially with an already top heavy vehicle. With the correct backspaced rims and 12.5's my track is now 4in. wider than stock w/ 10.5's. Makes a huge difference offroad and onroad. I still like the 10.5's though but have noticed a difference. Plus it just looks badass! Oh yeah, the only trimming or banging I have done was to the valance.

Eventually I do want to SAS but I am amazed at what I can do in the rocks now. I want to run the dusy w/ IFS before I SAS, but we will see about that.

The '93-95 3vze with the 340h tranny factory equiped with 31" tires will already have 4.88 gears. You will need 5.29 at least when moving to 33" tires. The 3vze with 5spd equiped with 31" tires came with 4.56 gears. I had this setup and ran a true 32" tire which was close to a radial 33" no problems. 86-92 22re or 3vze with the auto came with 4.30 gears and the 5spd came with 4.10.

BJ spacers are cheap and can give you the added down travel. To have it give improved upward travel, unload the torsion bars to set it back level and you gain more uptravel.

No 4Runners before 1996 had a 340F trans. They all had 340H. Big difference.

I completely agree with the rest of what you typed. I ran 33's with 5.29 and an auto and it was strong. Surprised even me...

NO 1996 and up came with the 343F, and yes the olders are a 340H, not F. That was quick typo on my part.

Well, I've driven 33's of all widths, and like my 33x12.5x15 bfg mt's I currently have on it the best (Got em this weekend. Such a killer deal, 5 for $400. Caint get much better than that!)

It may be a psychological thing, but I notice better performance in the mud with 12.5s than 10.5s. Though by pure mathematics, its 2590.5in2 for the 33x12.5s compared to the 33x10.5's 2176.02in2 of surface area. That's 414.48in2 more tire able to push you through the mud. And a bigger surface area means less weight per square inch of tire which means you won't sink as far down with wider tires. With 33x12.5s you have a downforce of about .43psi, compared to .51psi with the 33x10.5s (4 tires, assumed weight of 4475lbs.) which means you're putting down 119% more weight per square inch with those 10.5s.

Someone double check that... Pretty sure my math is right lol
