Here's a shot of para. 5.1.5.4.2 of SAE J588, which is linked to above.
It was adopted in the U.S. in 49 CFR 571.108

The "multiplier" applies to the minimum brightness given elsewhere (in "candles"). That is an observed measurement, so it is affected by how much (and how efficient) reflector you have. It is also affected, or course, by how bright the bulb is, so if the 1157 is 4-5 times as bright as the stock bulb you may overcome the reflector and still reach the multiplier. I don't know.

Do you use amber (yellow) bulbs? "parking" lights can be white, but turn signals have to be amber. Or does the amber patch in the lens line up well enough?

I'm sorry you feel I was trying to "bust your balls." That was not my intent. You had obviously put a lot of work into this, and it looked like you were trying to make them work well, not just "look cool." Toyota put some effort into putting the turn signals more than 100mm from the headlamps, which suggests to me that they believed they needed to do that. I thought you might want to think about that.

Dear Mr. 55reasons,

From the sound of it, I'm guessing this will be your last post here. I'm thinking that will be a good thing.

Yotatech is a very helpful, very responsible, and very friendly community. Scope103 is one of the most knowledgeable and committed posters on this forum. You have no business ranting about accurate information that he researched and supplied to augment what you've posted. It's quite possible that others, who may want to use your methodology, do care about the legality of their turn signals. I know I would.

Posts like the last one you just made don't fit in here, and are not particularly welcome. I think you owe an apology, to scope103, and to the forum.

Best regards,

Ron

There is no way in hell.

I was not wrong.
He, also, was not wrong with the information he provided.

That's not the point.

You chose to dismiss an idea from a "new" member by thread-jacking a write-up before it was completed.

Want to take the high road on "law" and "safety"? Ask yourself how many Trail Gear products you see on here. Or any other vendor that specifically sells their products for OFFROAD USE ONLY. Want to scan the photos and look for non-moving violations? Non-DOT SAS kits? HID bulbs outside of the authorized Kelvin temperature scale? Cite photos with improperly stored hazardous materials, no respirators, no safety boots, or EPA violations of petroleum-based chemicals making contact with the Earth?

I have been engaged in forums for 15+ years, WITHOUT INCIDENT, while building offroad trucks, sandcars, ATV's, vintage VW's, and building motorcycles from scratch. Whenever a "new" member comes in to contribute, it is customary to hold questions until the end. JUST LIKE in real life. Especially if the "question" isn't a question at all, and it's an attack on a hypothesis that was already included in a disclaimer in the original post. Sometimes, you know, a "new" member might be a guy that is a life-long welder, or a fabricator, or might be the person making products the blow-hards are buying as "kits".

Your defense of the events is unfounded. If there was an ounce of humility in your reply I might concede, but the fact that you are blind to the events as they transpired tells me that you are indeed blind to factual scenario.
Sticking up for a buddy is just that. it just makes you look foolish for doing so while still not comprehending the issue at hand.

If the write-up was filled with misinformation an admin would have pulled it down. That is not what happened. What happened is members of this forum collectively attempted to bully a new member who would not stand for it and fired back.

I will post the write-up in another, more supportive forum for those who stand to benefit from the tech contained within it regardless of WHERE they decide to mount a turn signal.

Happy Wheeling.

X2. It was a nice write up. He even said in the first post about the mod technically being against the law. Then the safety police jumped in.
People should already know anything done to a vehicle might be against the law, to check with local laws about mods.
I guess on future write ups we need to have a disclaimer saying we are not responsible for damage to your vehicle, breaking laws, etc like I see on other forum write ups.

Personally, I appreciate feedback and critique from the community here. Unsure why any adult would take their toys and go home from the dialogue that remains in this thread...

Regardless, I'm planning to swap out my stock corner lights for this Hilux 4wd version (different corner light for 2wd) : http://www.ebay.com/itm/88-85-TOYOTA...-/331296228984

*I'm liking this gunmetal gray hilux paint color... Looks like the Dark Gray Metallic that appears to have been primarily/just 2wd trucks per Toyota References pictures... My clear coat is starting to go and might have to go this route instead of my current Pewter Pearl: http://www.toyotareference.com/truck

I actually purchased from this seller w/ connectors (message him with the above link and I'm sure he'll hook you up, I think you'll need to cut the loop connectors and hardwire however, but it's helpful on the bulb to housing side): http://www.ebay.com/usr/asiapart?_tr...10.m2749.l2754

The why is that I didn't want to drill the body for the side/fender turn signal indicators. The turn signal indicator bulbs face rearward and protrude out and primarily city, including stop and go rush hour, driving I figure it's a good addition for cars that can't see my stock forward or rear corner signals... If you want to make this your sole turn signal, you'll most definitely need to upgrade bulbs and doubtful that this housing would support -- same size bulb as in current corner light...
Unsure as to which/why some Hiluxes have the side markers and some don't. Doesn't seem to be a model year exclusive -- maybe for beyond one specific country builds, then they add to cover all bases?

I'm considering doing this circuit to make the turn signal a dual indicator/turn signal but need to get the project done first before I decide if that's needed...
http://www.instructables.com/id/Neat...fects-Circuit/

Will do a thread whenever I get around to it. Have had the housings for a year now...

Switch to LED (to avoid any extra stress on your wiring and in that location it'll stay dry), and just find a higher lumen bulb that uses the same connector.
