90 4Runner Starting Problems(Update)

Gentlemen: I posted here several weeks ago.I had my starter replaced Monday.Friday the problem returned.I turned the key and nothing.Silence.Five turns later it turned over.Toyota assured me before I had the work done it was the starter.Now what?Any ideas? Thanks...

get yourself a haynes manual, read the section about re & re the starter. check all your grounds and clean them up, do the positives while you are at it. use the search feature at the top of each forum page and type in 'starter contacts' or 'replacing starter contacts' or similar. you can decide what to do about the dealer problem once you figure out what is wrong.

another option is: www.4crawler.com , look for starter contact repair in his write-ups.

my '84 did kinda the same thing. turned out to be the ground wire on the battery. when i went to check the battery and cables, the ground wire pulled right out of end. it just depended how the wire was wiggled wether it would start or not. the lights would work and everything, the wire just didn't have enough contact to run the starter.
