I have been thinking about getting both fog lights and driving lights for my 4Runner. I want to make it so that the driving lights only come on with the high beams and I want the fog lights to come on with the "dome light" switch (I have a completely different interior lighting situation). Does anyone know how any of this can be done?

I know that much, but what do I attach to where in order to make the driving lights work with the high beams?

You sure you wanna control it with Dome Light switch? Then, you'd have to run a control wire (low current, 18AWG) from your dome light (overhead) down to your fog lights relay. This will have +12V so this will energize our fog lights relay. Relay is best placed inside engine compartment and physically between battery and lights to minimize length of high-current (load=lights) wires.

Disconnect connector to headlight closer to battery.
Find wire that gets +12V when you switch high-beam on. Tap to this wire and send to positive of your relay coil.
Connect negative side of relay coil to wire and run wire to switch on dash. Connect other side of switch to ground point on A-pillar.
Connect the rest the way you would wire fog/driving lamps.

I feel dumb, DECK light switch. I already have a plan in motion that will make the deck light useless, so using the switch for fog lights would be nice.

For the driving lights, can I just run a straight ground instead of having a switch in the dash so that the driving lights always came on with the high beams?

Ahh... So just RE-using your deck lamp switch for foglamps? I see. But wouldn't you want something to remind you that you left fog lamps on? So tapping + of relay coil from tail light circuit would do it.

Sure, so just directly connect negative side of relay coil to nearest chassis ground. Wouldn't be street-legal, would it?

Tapping the + of the relay to the taillight circuit would allow the fog lights to come on with the running lights, like the deck light already is setup?

If you could wait, let us figure out exactly how the re-used Deck lamp switch should be wired.
Asking questions is not dumb. Just connecting wires anywhere without making sure is. LOL!

According to the wiring diagram I'm looking at right now your left headlight has a red/white high beam wire and your right head light has a red/black high beam wire. You can also catch a high beam signal behind the instrument cluster going to the high beam indicator which is red/green. Be sure to use a relay.

The deck light switch has three wires going to it according to the diagram I'm looking at. White/black is a ground going into the switch so that when the switch is on it's internal light will light up. There is also a green wire which is your 12V input power wire (only has power when the tail lights are on). Lastly there is a red wire which is the switch's 12V output when energized wire. So you'd hook up your relay to the red wire from the deck lamp switch.

Your second question. Yes you can but it may not be legal in all 50 states. You will still need to use a relay.
