22r mods any other suggestions?

Here is the run down, have yet to drive any 22r or any toyota for that matter. Bought one with a ill running motor. So am having a motor built, 22r, bored .30 over, new bottom to top, shaving the head a little, larger cam, porting out the head a little, bought a offenhouser intake a weber 36/38 i think is the number? Hooker short header, 2 1/2 flowmaster, will do full 2 1/2 exhaust no cat. Only other thing I can think of is adding is a msd 6a. Can anyone out there tell me if im going to have enough there to be happy pushing 33's 4:10s?? in a 86 4x4 5speed. Or any other things I might be missing here? thanks in advance,

Build the motor. Drive it and see how it feels to you with 33s and 4.10s.

Then go from there so you have an origin for comparison.

It's all about the power to weight ratio. Take every spare pound out of the vehicle that you don't need.

if your gonna shave the head, get the LCE cam gear to dial in the cam or advance it slightly. Shaving the head is gonna retard the cam timing a little.

31's and 4:10s on mine fells a little sluggish, but my block (not head) is shaved .010. No LCE adj gear yet so I know my cam timing is slightly off.

20 over pistons, eb 268 cam downey header, 2 1/4" exhaust no cat. You don't want to go more than 2 1/4" with the 22r engine. Stock intake with a 32/36 weber.

it's either a weber 32/36 or a weber 38 (38/38). the 32/36 is an all around carb and the 38 will give more bottom end.

which offy intake did you go with single plane or dual plane?

offy makes two manifolds that the webers bolt to. it will be apparent once you get it which one it is, but a single plane does better with the 32/36 where as the dual plane does better with the 38.

don't worry about it it's not really needed. If your really worried about it, you can swap out the one from your original intake. Or you can get this and eliminate it all together just make sure yours is the 8 bolt or 11 bolt. The 8 bolt retains thew coolant fitting for the heater etc etc. Not sure on the 11 bolt.

8 bolt http://www.toyotacatalog.net/M1WebGe...F-4D4039CA250F
11 bolt http://www.toyotacatalog.net/M1WebGe...9-F329BF366E25

Did that offy manifold come with the thermostat housing? If not the offy's require the 81-83 thermostat housing.

It's the 8 bolt one and came with thermo housing, will that wire need to be hooked to have heat or anything? Main reason of getting the toy back on the road as my wrangler heater is shot thanks again

no, all that thing does is heat up the fuel inside the intake plenum. I think anyway. lol. You should be able to swap the one that is in your intake into the offy.

here is the part description for it:
21980 HEATER ASSY, COLD MIXTURE 21980-35010 1983.08-1988.08 22R.. N5#,6#, 70 $174.30

if your gonna switch them out and use new gaskets these are what you need:

GASKET, CARBURETOR 21995-35020 1983.08-1988.08 22R.. RN5#, 6#, 70 $3.50
GASKET, WATER BY-PASS 16347-35050 1983.08-1988.08 22R.. RN5#, 6#, 70 $6.06

My 84 runner has 137k on it with a 22r. I did nothing to but rebuilt the carb and put on trail gears headers with a magnaflow muffler. For being bone stock motor it pushes my 35's extremly well with 5:29 in the axels. With the tire and gear combo it really didnt mess with the speedo to much going off what my GPS says.
