1990 toyota pickup4x4 22r to 22re, and wreck repair.

this has been a long awaited moment for me, this will be slow going as this is just a "toy" and i'll get to it in my spare time. my papal got this truck used when it was a couple years old, then i bought it from him maybe 5 years ago. Been in the family for a while now, so it has meaning to me and that's why i don't count my dollars when it comes to this truck (within reason). I wrecked this truck a while back, i now have a front end off an 89 model which is in better condition anyway... the battery acid rusted my front sheet metal pretty good. so after watching a tube video i saw how easy it was to splice in the front end of a toyota, that's exactly how i'll do it. just need a welder

for my 22r to 22re;
i have 90% of the parts.. all wiring from the cab, dash, and engine compartment, intake manifold and air intake and other engine parts, throttle cable ect..

i do not have fuel lines, cab wiring from the passenger seat to the rear, or efi fuel tank / pump. not sure if i will get these parts or not, as i can an run a external pump and wire it in to the stock wiring.

i have the manual from the auto parts store... but it's kinda vague. i'm looking for wiring diagrams for a 89 22re and a 90 22r toyota pickup. after lots of searching i just can't find any write up's about swapping these year models. I guess it's because most trucks were already EFI, anyway any help would be great on the wiring. it's dark now, but i'll toss up pix when i can..

all i really done is pull the fenders, bumper, and asses the damage and just getting things together. i don't know if the damage would normally be worth the effort, but there is a huge hole where my battery used to be. none the less i think i have a game plan. we'll see. don't know whats up with the bad pix.. it's a droid bionic with an 8mp camera. anyway.... maybe more tomorrow.

back at it again.... i pulled the complete body and engine wiring out of my truck... O.o no idea what i'm doing, i'm just going with the flow.

here is today's work.

this is my front end i chopped off. i was very reluctant to cut it off. i'm not a body guy or a welder but the plan is simple. the panels over lap, i have 4 holes i use for alignment, i used these holes with bolts to hold it in place. now i have it where i want i can test fit fenders, hood, etc. when that is good i will then cut both panels where they overlap. cut 4/5in line up panels tac weld it and just keep going like that. should make a somewhat seamless repair. it doesn't have to be beautiful, just has to be strong, she's not wining any car shows!

my frame is bent and not sure what all is needed to correct that. the front pass. body mount bracket is beat up pretty bad (as seen in above picture), driver side is actually not to bad, but it looks like the frame has shifted toward the pass side by about half and inch. i notice the bed and the cab are kissing, which makes me think the cab could have shifted, none the less something is tweaked. if the frame is bent i may look for another frame, maybe an 85/84 model, which i found one for a decent price in my area and may snag it up swap over my body and drive train and have a Solid axle truck!!

while i wanted a 84/85 model, this one will have to do.

Click the image to open in full size.

hey not bad at all for the $$. looks like crap, but it has EVERYTHING i need. while it's not solid axle, it's a good solid, straight frame with good bumper brackets, awesome saves me from messing with new brackets and a trip to the frame rack. plus it has the other odds and ends i need to complete my efi swap. which might be complete by ummmmm, next year sometime. lots of remodeling going on at home.

ok... these things worked themselves out when i installed the lower 22re intake plenum. cleaning old gasket is a big PITA!!! the stock 22r heater core crossover tube works just the same as the 22re one. i'm starting to put my dash back together, but there is not much i can do until the core support is welded

i've read the 1990 model 22r carb engines were rated at the fallowing (hp/tq) 1983-90 models - 97/129 and 1990-95 models - 108/138 and 22re 1989-95 models 112/142. not sure how to tell which rating mine was, i don't think the u.s. offered a 22r after 1990. so i hope mine was rated at 97/129 so that all this conversion work pays off! would hate to have done everything for an extra 4hp and 4 tq!!! if nothing else it's kinda fun doing the swap, i should get better mpg and it should run much smoother threw the rpm range. no more dead spots!!! yay!
