knocking rod Questions

I have a knocking rod is there anyway to make it stop or i should say last longer?

thicker oil will band aid it, but eventually it will come out and ruin the block, your better off doing something about it soon

replace whatever is making it knock.... most likely, the rod is bent, or the bearing is shot, it could also be a wristpin......


sometimes, horrible timing can also sound lik a rod knock

nothing you can do to make it better. tear the engine down and fix it, or go shopping for a new one when it goes flying out the side of the block.

Thats what i thought. thanks for the comments.
I will through some heavier oil and try and rebuild the block i have waiting in the garage.

The 85 is easy to drop the oil pan and check/change the rod bearing.

But the knock from our 22RE was from drinking too much water at the local mud pit (bent # 4 rod)

It ran about 1 week more before the rod blew out both sides of the block.

i wouldn't stick a new bearing in there until you have the crank machined. if it's knocking, it's already too late to slap one in.
