85 22re no crank, no turn over

Hey all, project 85 4runner. Registered here a l-o-n-g time ago, but have since forgotten that name/password. slightly modified during a rebuild, bored .030, rv2 cam, adj cam timing gear, headers.

Within the past 2 months, reseated my injectors, new plugs, new wires, new 02 sensor. Went to fire her up, nothing.

Hear the solenoid in the ecm kickpanel clicking, fuel pump works when trying to start...but nothing from the engine.

Battery is good, starter wiring appears solid (got down and wiggled the s.o.b.s around), grounds all appear solid and manually bumped the motor over a few compression cycles..nothing. Tested my iginiton coil VS the FSM, am pulling 14v while the FSM spec'd 12v. Manipulated various connectors, checked the AFM, TPS sensors etc.

Has not ran (which was very poor at that) since prob. November-ish.

Any leads?

The clicking you hear inside the cab is likely the circuit opening relay. It is what turns on the fuel pump. Try the simple voltage test below to see if the problem is inside the starter (solenoid contacts most likely) or upstream from there:

Might be wise to PM Corey about that so the auto filter doesn't catch you with two accounts and ban you.

2 powers to the starter .. main power from the battery (large post) , and exciter to the selenoid (smaller "cliped" wire ) .. ground is provided by bolting it to the block .

is this the way you have it ?

Thanks for the quick replies fellas. 4crawler I will work through the test you wrote about when I get back from DC on Thurs. Hope that points me in the right direction.
Just odd it started prior to me doing the R&R work with the upper intake plenum and the header.

Waskillywabbit, I think the only thing that would tie the two accounts is an email address, and I dont remember which I used the first time...this email is a different one than I had when first signing up here in 2003. But I will know what happened if I can't log in one day

Slacker, yes thats what I have going on. One 10 or 12 guage wire, and a small connector wire, maybe 18 or 22 guage? that has a dark grey hard plastic sheath. with ground attached.

Just to add a little to 4crawlers great post, Using a 4 foot jumper wire connect one end to the POS of the battery and touch the other end to the starter solenoid(small wire connector) If the starter turns when doing this it's a harness wiring/switch problem( I would check Ign switch, neutral switch or clutch switch first), if the starter doesn't turn it's a problem with the starter(I would check ground against engine and big cable first)

this is what i did and found out its the supply from the ignition switch. low power. also, in case i have to say, make sure its in neutral. all i did was take the supply (small wire going to starter) and cut it and wired up a relay to supply batt power to that wire. you can use the wire from the switch as the trip wire for the relay and the rest of the wire just goes to the starter.
