2nd gen brake upgrade for 1st gen 4runner
O.K. I'll try this thread again....I was reading in 4x4 toyota owner magazine that you could put T100 brakes on a 2nd gen runner, SOOOOO.......if you can put 2nd gen brakes on a 1st gen runner, can you put T100 brakes on a 1st gen? Has anybody tried to? and how hard is is to do a drum to disc conversion on the back of a first gen. I can't remember when month the magazine it was but if I find it I will repost........thanks

Please clarify the vehicle comparison. T100 to 1st gen 4Runner or pickup?
And then why?
IFS V6 calipers and vented rotors work already.
Drum to disc conversion is easily and best obtained IMO with a FROR full floater conversion using all Toyota parts.

Front
85 4Runner upgrade to IFS V6 calipers and vented rotors
86-87 4 cyl calipers you can upgrade with a swap out of calipers and rotors
88-89 might be V6 already so no need to upgrade, unless like 4 cyl above
Rear
Best upgrade is still using all Toyota parts and using FROR full floater

Yes it can be done, and quite a few people here have done it. I also plan in doing to my 4Runner in the near future.

I found this, it says you can use the T100 master cylinder, calpier, rotors & brake pads on a 1st ge 4runner. The bore / piston on the T100 master cylinder is a 1/4" larger.

SO! I've done this. I put 13WL 2000 Tundra calipers and the rotors of the same truck on a 1st gen toyota axle, BUT i used IFS manual hubs. Typically the rotors go behind the hub on a 1st gen, but in this application, the rotors were put over the hub and used the wheel studs to hold the rotors... there needs to be a better way of holding the rotors on the hub (it was loose but it worked) and then i just bolted the 13WL calipers to the spindle... it fit. Now I did have diamond axle build the axle knowing that I would put these brakes on the axle... and it worked. Unfortunately I sold that 4Runner to a dude in Northern Virginia and I think his buddy down in North Carolina finished building it. Who knows if they are still running that set up
