22RET Conversion Questions
I am purchasing a 22RET to install in my 88 4X4 X-cab. I need to know if the 22RET will bolt up to my W56 transmission and if there are any major mods I will have to do to the pickup. (Radiator, A/C, clutch, etc..) I have read the turbo had a different tranny but I just need to use the one I have.
Thanks for any help on this topic.

Yes it will bolt to your W series transmission. It is still a 22R engine. If you got the motor with bellhousing you can use the V6 R150 trans, if not just use your old bellhousing. If It came with the flywheel, use the Turbo clutch instead of the standard clutch.

And a cool blow off valve that makes you think about silent farts?
Seriously, how about a boost gauge? And I'd consider turbo upgrades, head gasket upgrades, so you up the boost a little bit.
Now that I think about it, is there a factory inter cooler you're supposed to have? Can you get away without one?

I have done this swap both ways. Everything will interchange although your wiring harness maybe slightly different, check the fuel injector plugs. The computer works and I recommened using the efi one not the turbo. You will get a higher top end out of it mine would do 100mph.The radiator is different for the turbo as it has a water port on the top. However most all have a flat spot where the plug goes so you can get one put in. The Airflow meter will work but will need adjusted. You can adjust it by removing the top cover and putting more tension in the spring. This is not an exact sience but you o2 sensor will tell you if you are to rich or lean. The spring holds tension on the door.
